There can be no feeling worse than your beloved pet going missing.

Having no idea where they are or if they’re safe must be the toughest kind of mental agony, especially as you don’t know if you’re ever going to see them again. Our pets truly become a member of the family, so losing them would leave a great hole in our lives. When your pet has been missing for a while, eventually it’s time to accept that they’re not coming back, and people will generally mourn for their pet as if they’ve passed away. But what happens when the pet you’ve accepted as dead suddenly comes back into your life again?

Well that’s exactly what happened to a farmer from Ireland, whose beloved dog disappeared from his home – only to be found a month later.

Amazingly, the dog was found alive and well in a property over 30 miles from his home, and the farmer was able to reunite with his best friend once more. The man’s son shared the happy news onto Facebook, alongside some adorable photos of the reunited pair, and our hearts have been well and truly warmed.

85-year-old Sean Garrigan from Co Meath, Ireland, feared that he’d never see his beloved Springer Spaniel again, after the 12-year-old dog disappeared from his home on July 9. The pair had a close bond and the spaniel named Brandy had never run away before, leading Sean to believe that he had been stolen. Sean was absolutely heartbroken, and as the weeks went on, he began to lose hope that he’d ever see his special friend again.

“Brandy is more to me than just a dog,” Sean told iheartdogs. “He is my reason to get up in the morning and the reason I feel safe at night.”

In a last-ditch attempt to get Brandy back, Sean took to Facebook to post a desperate plea to his friends, saying, “all that matters is I get him back.” But after a series of recent dog-nappings in the local area, poor Brandy’s fate wasn’t looking too promising, and Sean was beside himself with worry. Then a miracle happened.

Brandy was found by Garda officers in a property miles away from his home at the farm. No one knew how he had managed to get there – but the great news was that he was safe, well, and ready to come home and see Sean again.

“A good news story to end the weekend, Brandy the spaniel which was stolen recently in Trim was found in Ballyfermot this evening,” a garda spokesperson said. It’s hard to put into words how his 85-year-old owner Sean felt when they were reunited,” they added. “Thank you everyone for your vigilance and help in getting him back.”

Sean was apparently “over the moon” to be reunited with his best friend, and his son, Aiden, took to Facebook to share the happy news with his friends. Alongside some adorable photos of his dad and his four-legged friend, taken since the pair have been reunited, he wrote,

“On behalf of my Dad and myself a thousand thanks to everyone involved in helping us get him back,” he said. All the posts/messages/texts etc.. Shared by all around the country/england/scotland/wales/Germany and even the USA. “Never give up.. as we know our dogs will not give up on us… A wonderful happy ending for my Dad and Brandy.. Reunited.”

We’re so glad that Sean was able to be reunited with Brady, and we hope that the dog-nappers have since been caught!
