Rivers can be seriously dangerous even for the best of swimmers, as they can have strong underwater currents and very cold temperatures. But what would you do if you were walking past a river and saw a puppy drowning?
When it’s a decision between risking your safety and letting a dog drown, then one man decided that the dog’s life was worth the risk of his own.
In some footage filmed by a river in Romania, a poor puppy can be seen frantically trying to escape from a river that he appears to have fallen into. There’s no context behind how he managed to get in the river in the first place, but you can clearly see that he’s struggling to stay afloat.
Thankfully, one selfless man decided that he wasn’t going to stand by and let the dog drown. Putting his own life at risk, he made his way down the river bank until he was close enough to reach the dog. He waded through the icy cold water and managed to keep his balance in the powerfully surging current.
If the water had have knocked the man over, he might not have been able to recover.
Eventually, the man reached the dog and was able to grab hold of him by the scruff of his neck. While it’s not recommended that you lift your animals like this, it’s the best way to do it in an emergency situation, as it’s the easiest way to keep your grip on them.
Once he had got a firm hold of the terrified dog, the man began to make his way back to the shore. Even though the pup is scared, it’s as if he knows that this man is going to help get him out from the river.
The puppy and man encounter some obstacles along the way, and at one point, they have to climb over a large concrete boulder. But eventually, they make it back to shore, where another man waits in anticipation for the pair.
Thankfully, the dog seems to be okay, and the moment he reaches the shore, he simply cannot contain his happiness.
The little pup gets a serious case of ‘the zoomies’, and races around the forest in obvious relief. He even creeps close to the edge and looks down at the river that he has just been rescued from, before rushing back to the men to show how grateful he is.
The dog allows himself to be petted by the men, and you can see that no matter what happens in the future, they’ve made a connection for life.
