Young kids and animals can often form incredibly strong bonds. Kids are full of energy and have no trouble expressing their feelings. If they love an animal, they’ll tell them over and over again.

One adorable example of this can be seen with a little boy and his donkey.

One of the first things you may be wondering is, can donkeys and humans really form a bond?

And according to an article by Pet Helpful, they can! The article says that donkeys are affectionate animals who form bonds with both people and their stablemates:

“Donkeys are surprisingly affectionate. They seek out their trusted humans or other animals, whether to be petted or simply to stand nearby. They can become quite close to dogs, horses, and other pasture pals. Their fellow donkey friends, though, are [extraordinarily] important to them.”

You can see this bond with Snickers the donkey and Gunnar, a three-year-old who lives on a farm with his family.

Gunnar’s family owns Kloud 9 Acres, an alpaca farm in Ontario, Canada. While the farm is most famous for its alpacas, it does have other animals — including Snickers the donkey.

Damaris, Gunnar’s mom, explained that they ended up adopting Snickers when someone needed to rehome him.

“We had someone reach out, and they were like, ‘We’re rehoming a donkey. He just isn’t getting the time that he should be getting,'” Damaris told The Dodo.

Snickers immediately made himself at home at Damaris’ farm. She was so happy to see how comfortable he was.

And one of the reasons Snickers was so comfortable was because of Gunnar. The little boy immediately took to the donkey, and the donkey loved him right back.

“Our backyard — we have a fence,” Damaris said. “Snickers came right up to the fence, and Gunnar would just start walking up to him too and just start petting him.”

Snickers began following Gunnar around wherever he would go. Gunnar also always made sure to spend lots of time with Snickers, which the donkey loved.

“Snickers just loves all the attention,” Damaris said. “He’ll just be crying for us to come over, and Gunnar can just give him all the attention.”

Damaris shares tons of photos and videos of Gunnar and Snickers on her Instagram page. Everyone loves seeing the sweet pair together.

“They both have a crazy amount of energy, and when Gunnar and Snickers are together, they do have more of a sense of calm,” Damaris said.

Gunnar and Damaris are an adorable pair, and it’s so sweet to see their bond. They have a bright future together!
