Interspecies friendships are always cute.
This is especially true when the friendship is between a traditionally ‘grumpy’ and ‘happy’ species. This donkey named Paulo and disabled puppy named Kolima is the perfect example of this sweet type of friendship.
Kolima is a dog suffering from wobbly syndrome, a condition that prevents Kolima from growing at the same rate as the other puppies in her litter.
As a result, Kolima is unable to walk comfortably on her own. But still, Kolima is a puppy, and like all puppies, she’s curious about the world and wants to make friends with everyone.
That’s when Kolima met Paolo.
Now Paolo isn’t a human nor a dog. In fact, Paolo is a donkey.
You may be wondering what kind of relationship a dog and donkey could have. Well, you’ll be surprised to hear that Paolo the donkey has adopted Kolima as his own and the two of them interact like they’re best friends when they’re together. The pair live on a farm in Italy together, and they love spending time together.
Paulo and Kolima’s owner, Felice Caputo, shared a sweet video of the pair on his Facebook page. In the description, he discussed the pair’s friendship more. Translated from Italian, he said:
“After an initial moment of indifference, Paolo saw Kolima’s difficulties and took her under his wing. The only time of day Kolima finds the energy to stand up and play is when I take her to Paolo.”
Caputo continued by saying:
“They are a show: Paolo, the spiteful and stubborn Paolo, after a first moment of indifference took the big dog under his protective wing, he realized Kolima’s motor difficulties and, to make him play and give him warmth, he does incredible things.”
He also added:
“I thought I adopted a puppy, but every day it becomes clearer that she was adopted by my donkey.”
Kolima and Paulo may not be the same species, but that hasn’t stopped them from building a truly beautiful friendship. We’re so glad they have each other.
