Many of us faced a struggle we never expected in quarantine: haircuts. Or, rather, a lack of them.
With hair salons being forced to close their doors, we were left with a dilemma: either let our hair grow to slightly appalling lengths or shave everything off. 2020 ended up being the year of the intentionally bald man – a good majority of the population preferred to go completely hairless than face the nightmare of trying to do a decent cut.
It wasn’t only humans that struggled with the sudden requirement to DIY their own hair cutting, either. If you’re mom or dad to a floofy animal, you’ve probably faced the same hilariously awful “cut or shave?” scenario at least twice last year.
Let’s take a look at 20 of the funniest quarantine dog grooming fails – and just be glad you don’t have hair all over your body like these poor canines…
1. “Trim the dog”
When this man’s wife asked him to “trim the dog”, she probably wasn’t expecting such a drastic shave. It’s like when you go to the hairdressers’ and ask for a trim at the ends – and end up coming out with a shoulder-length bob. Not cool.
2. Not Impressed
While the doggo in the top pic seems to have a relatively normal quarantine cut, the same can’t be said for the moody-looking boy below it. We’re not surprised he’s glaring like that – we’d look exactly the same if someone tried to give us such an ugly 80s fringe. That’s gonna take a while to resolve itself, too.

3. It didn’t go well
Dogs are supposed to love their humans unconditionally, but there are exceptions. When you look so bad you’re embarrassed to go out in public, and it’s all your mom or dad’s fault, of course you’re going to sulk for a while. This little guy looks like a sheared sheep.

4. “Pink Turkey”
I mean, if you cut your dog’s hair and it looked like this, you’d surely be too guilty to take her for walks. Maybe she bought her a little coat to cover up all that exposed skin. She must be feeling very naked right now, poor thing.

5. Moon head
It’s always a funny sight when a dog’s body gets shaved but his head stays the same. It’s almost like a child’s drawing, where the head inevitably ends up being far too big for the body. Without his fluff, this doggo has a definite moon face.

6. Neighbor’s dog’s haircut
Nobody sets out to shave their dog’s fur with a vision in mind… but this man unintentionally turned his pup into a grandad. Just look at that fur beard! Unsurprisingly, he does not look impressed…
7. Click to reveal
You’d never imagine just how bad a quick shave could be… but just wait until you see the end product from this attempt. (Click the arrow on the right-hand side of the pic to see for yourself!) Here’s all the proof we need that it’s far easier to get it wrong than to get it right.

8. It just gets worse…
You know when you start doing something, deeply regret it, and wonder if it’s actually better to leave the job half-finished? That’s exactly what’s going on in this picture. After turning their dog into a giraffe, this owner wondered whether it was crueler to carry on or put down the clippers for good. We say commit – it’s not going to get any worse…
9. The anger is real
Have you ever seen an angrier dog? Correction: have you ever seen a sillier angrier dog? We’d have a similar reaction if someone gave us such a jaggedy haircut. Where is the blending? Wouldn’t it be better to get rid of the fluff altogether?
10. Lion cut
There’s something pretty cool about these cuts, you have to admit. We have what is essentially a dog mowhawk on the first pic. The second dog has been turned into a lion – albeit white and a lot more friendly-looking. Why don’t the professionals get this creative?

11. Lost all trust
It’s totally possible for dogs to get traumatized by a bad shaving experience. Looks like this guy checked himself out in the mirror and was horrified by what he saw. It must have taken weeks for him to even get close to a human after this.
my mum decided to ‘try grooming the dog’ today and i don’t think he will ever trust a human again pic.twitter.com/HPLmV8CeL9

12. Mistakes were made
Remember that kid with the curly hair at school who used to go to the hair salon and come back a completely different person? That’s what’s happened here. We wouldn’t even believe this was the same dog if we had definitive proof.
13. Weight loss illusion
Want to look like you’ve lost weight without actually dieting? It’s not easy for most of us, but if you’re a fluffy dog, you know what to do: get your owner to inexpertly shave your fur. Instant slimming guaranteed.
14. Offended
Yet another failed fur cut, yet another offended face. It’s like he’s saying, “Human, I trusted you with my life, and you let me down.” If he thinks he looks bad, he should take a look at some of the other dogs in this article…

15. “I’m so sorry, son”
If you’ve seen the failed quarantine human haircuts, this will already be a familiar sight to you. There’s a knack to using the clippers that most people don’t possess. In this case, the dog in question ended up with a body like many fail-shaved human heads.
16. Money box dog
This poor doggo wasn’t even in line for an intended shave – she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. We have to say, considering this was a “mistake”, the line of missing fur is almost too even in the middle of the head. Could it be any more obvious?

17. He’s so fancy
This dog looks like he belongs in the “Bridgerton” cast! Honestly, it’s not the worst we’ve seen. While he looks a bit offended to have ended up with such a pompous cut, at least he’s still got some fur left on his body…
the groomer closed but he needed a haircut….. jeff i’m so sorry… pic.twitter.com/uZVu1tTlYR

18. When you cut your own bangs
If you never attempted to cut your own bangs as a teenager, were you even a teenager? This person definitely needed a bit more practice in their younger life before they got to work on their dog. Hey, practice makes perfect – they might have mastered it by now.
@juliemason So – as you would surmise, my dog groomer is closed. So I had to give my dog a trim. My first pass did not go great 😂. pic.twitter.com/1BkpdmiETh

19. Crime in action
If you were curious to know what goes down in a DIY dog fur-cutting session, this’ll give you an idea. Lead attached to the door, dog looking slightly horrified as owner attempts to shave his belly. He’s probably wondering what on earth has got into her.
With pet places closed, my wife decided to trim my dog’s hair.
It has taken 3 days.
The poor pup is now an absolute mess. 🐶 pic.twitter.com/EvRtNNtHqq

20. Traumatised
And finally… we’re hardly surprised that this person’s partner is horrified at the idea of her cutting his hair. Just look at how her poor dog turned out! Who said he consented to getting a beard? It’s so bad, you can’t help laughing.
