While most people think that their dogs are the smartest on earth but Lonnie and Susan Chester of Norvell Township, MI were actually right about their dog’s intelligence.

“I do find these dogs to be exceptionally intelligent,” Susan told Michigan Live.

Their two Labradoodles, Adam and Eva, are always letting their owners know exactly when they need to go out to use the bathroom or when they want to go outside to play.

But when the two begged their owners to let them out at 4:30 a.m. one morning, the Chesters knew something was up.

“(Adam) never tugged on my clothes before, so I was cautious about letting them out because I didn’t know if there was anything out there,” Lonnie explains.

And there was something out there, but it wasn’t anything that was going to do harm to the two pups.

It was someone who needed their help. Adam and Eva ran out the door before Lonnie could even open it all the way.

“And I go, ‘Oh my God’ and I looked at this lady,” Lonnie said.

Adam and Eva zoomed up to his truck, where Lonnie saw an elderly woman on the ground in nothing but her nightgown in the cold January weather.

It was reported to be around 9-degrees that morning.

“She looked up at me and said, ‘I’m so cold,'” Lonnie recalls. “I have no idea how long she had been out there. She must have been terrified.”

Lonnie picked the woman up and wrapped her in some blankets on the couch then called 911. Just after the emergency responders arrived, the woman’s family came knocking on their door looking for her.

They said they couldn’t see the 80-something-year-old woman lying in the snow since it was so dark outside.

Susan was overjoyed that her dogs were there to help this woman before it was too late.

She is all too familiar with this situation. Her elderly mother had wandered off in the cold two months prior and is still undergoing medical treatment for injuries she suffered during the incident.

“We’re just so proud of our dogs knowing they may have saved a life,” Susan said. “I hope this serves as a wake-up call for everyone, especially with it being so cold out.”

Susan said she was glad to see that their intelligence paid off in a big way.

“They just pick up on things so fast and they really pay attention to everything that’s going on,” she explains. “They are really really important in our lives.”
