We have all occasionally gone to great lengths in order to hide a guilty action. While this usually happens in our teenage years, adults are never too far removed from a poor decision! While humans usually get themselves in enough trouble as it is, many mischievous dogs can keep pace with us.
Two bulldogs made a bit of a mess for themselves.
Dogs can be sneaky and cunning all in their own right. For Sophia and Oliver, it appeared to them that the living room needed a bit of redecorating. Once their mind was set to it, they went about and made quite the mess.
Sophia and Oliver had gone to work destroying the entire living room.
We never truly know what causes dogs to do such wild things. Sometimes it is retribution after a long stint away from home, and other times, it is simply boredom. We don’t know what caused Sophia and Oliver to make such a mess, but they sure did their best work!
They didn’t leave anything untouched.
Baskets were strewn every which way with many of them having holes where they chewed through. The sofa and chairs had fabric ripped from them and made a wreck. This is something that many dog owners have experienced – it still doesn’t make you less angry, however!
Instead of owning up to the crimes, the two criminal bulldogs put in place a master escape plan.
Any good criminal has a Plan B in case things go south. For Oliver and Sophia, they had seen a few opossums in their yard and decided to model their plan after them.
An opossum is known for a special behavior that the two dogs picked up.
When an opossum is in trouble, they will “play possum”. This is simple slang that means to play dead. This is often a behavior observed in opossums and can be quite comedic in certain situations.
When threatened or harmed, they will “play possum“, mimicking the appearance and smell of a sick or dead animal. This physiological response is involuntary (like fainting), rather than a conscious act. [Wikipedia]
When Sophia and Oliver’s mom came in to check on them, they knew they had messed up.
When the bulldogs realized they had been caught in the act of the crime, they kicked Plan B into place, effective immediately. Their plan? To play dead until the danger had passed! Two big bulldogs were caught on film “playing possum.”
You can see that they need some serious practice.
As far as acting goes, the dogs need some serious work. They do their very best but they can’t help but look around when they think their owner is gone! In all honesty, it looks like a bunch of toddlers trying not to get in trouble with mom.
The dogs were unresponsive… until.
Mom and dad nudged their dogs with their feet, hoping to get a response from the “dead dogs.” The dogs were much too smart for this, though, and they just stayed in position, not giving away any detail. After some time, though, mom got an idea.
Calling out “who wants a snack” was all it took to bring them back to life.
You can guess what happens next! The two dogs come running at the possibility of a snack. It makes you wonder if they did this whole scheme in the first place in order to get some food! It is cute (especially since it’s not our couch) nonetheless.
