It’s hard for dogs to resist the temptation upon facing a bowlful of yummy food. Some dogs are trained by their owners to resist the urge to gobble the food in front of them. However, the trick is difficult to pull off, and even if they could, some could only manage a few seconds of resistance.
This patience training is an impossible feat for most dogs.
A dog owner shared a video featuring the perfect patience challenge for his two furry companions. After placing a plate of mouth-watering chicken in front of the Siberian husky and a Golden retriever, their owner ordered both dogs not to touch the food before he returns. As he left the room, the test of patience began.
The dogs’ battle between their hunger and self-control was tough.
After the owner left the room, the dogs’ true test started. Both of the dogs could not help but feel hungry as they could smell the delicious aroma coming from the chicken. This is why both dogs came up with a strategy to hold back their urge to taste the yummy chicken.
The husky was restless but it was his way of averting his desire to eat. He constantly walks away from the chicken and tries to convince his owner to let him eat it. Since the owner was unaffected by his strategy, the pup kept winding up back in the room where the chicken was placed.
On the other hand, the Golden Retriever resisted the temptation by averting his gaze as much as possible from the chicken in front of him. The dog stayed still while his husky friend continued to restlessly circle the whole room.
Eventually, one of them reached his limits.
One could only hold out for so long, and it was the Siberian husky who first dropped the towel. As the owner was still not around, he decided it would not hurt him to treat himself with a little taste of the chicken.
The sly husky thought of a clever loophole – that licking does not count as eating the food – and so he proceeded to put his tongue on the chicken.
The Golden Retriever refused to yield and he just sat in the background watching his buddy lick the food. After a short while, their owner entered the room and caught the husky red-handed disobeying his orders.
The dogs still end up as winners at the end of this test.
In this clever test of self-control, we can see the dog’s unique personalities and their way of handling a dilemma. Despite the husky’s attempt to disobey their owner, the only punishment he got was not being the first one to take the first bite of the chicken.
The owner rewarded the patient husky with a small cut of the chicken.
Of course, the husky was rewarded for his efforts as well. In the end, both of the dogs were able to enjoy the yummy food that their owner set aside for them.
