Considered “man’s best friend,” we can only hope that our furry pals love us as much as we love them. It turns out, that they probably do.

I think we can all agree that this one big sigh of relief. You no longer need to worry if the love is mutual. The good news is that if you love your canine child and treat them well, they’re likely to love you back.

We even have scientific proof.

Stemming from a gene mutation from their wolf ancestors, there’s a genetic explanation for your pup loving you. Through years of selective breeding, canines slowly grew to love people, but the science doesn’t stop there.

Recent studies have taken this a step further, into various social experiments.

Do you ever see a dog and human duo that is almost exactly alike personality-wise?

Well, the verdict is in: your four-legged child grows up to be more like you.

No, your dogs can’t suddenly stand up on two feet and work a 9-5 to cover their share of the rent, but they can begin to match your personality. The dog you first adopt from the shelter or the puppy you take home at a few months old will learn and grow from your behaviors.

All too often we encounter dogs and humans who just seem to be a match made in heaven.

Maybe, they both have energetic personalities or maybe, they’re both athletic. Sometimes, owners and dogs may even have some resembling physical features.

According to science, these matches may not always be due to random chance.

Except for the part about physical features… If you choose a dog that looks like you, you can’t blame the dog’s personality for that one.

We all know that human personalities can evolve with age, but recent studies have found that the same is true for your canine bestie, as well.

One Michigan State University study found that dogs are quite likely to experience personality changes in accordance with their surrounding environments. Since pups deserve the best, we sure hope you’re surrounding them with all the loving possible.

The good news? If you’re someone overly friendly and social, you’re likely to have your dog acting the same way a few years down the road.

The bad news? Negative traits may also influence your dog’s behavior. An aggressive owner may very well have an aggressive dog. The dog is likely to become more aggressive as it slowly mirrors its owner’s behavior.
