As an adult, you don’t often get to play the games you played as a kid. Tea party? Becomes Saturday brunch. Cops and Robbers? Well, as an adult you don’t want to go there! So hide and seek is out the window right? Well, maybe that just means that you need to enlist the enthusiasm of your actual best friends: dogs. Dogs don’t judge you when you want to play games. They’re just there for the fun of it.

When this girl decided to play Hide and Seek with her dog pals, she had three mutt mates who were all to ready for a game.

She takes position behind a door and calls for her pet pals to come find her.

And they try! As you’ll see when you watch the video, that they’re not exactly bloodhounds! They rush excitedly through to try and find her, but seem to be almost a little bit too excited to focus on the task at hand. If they only followed their noses, they may have had a chance.

They may not be the best tracking dogs, but they sure are cute to watch.

They rush into the room and for a brief moment it looks as if they have her! But just as quickly as they storm into the room looking as if they’re about to turn and discover her, they turn away and shoot back out of the room. That was a close one!

Does this one have her?

Your heart might sit in your throat when you see this particular good boy looking almost AT his hider, as if he can sense that she’s just right there behind the door. I know mine was!

But no, he gives up on this room and continues to look elsewhere.

And all the other dogs continue to waste their efforts around the house. That wee doggo should have just followed his gut (or nose!) to find his mom! As they scatter from room to room, they scurry around with admirable determination.

At last they return to the room where she’s hiding! Will they find her?

They’re so close! Surely their superior noses would help them play a game of hide and seek, surely! A dog’s nose has approximately 300 million olfactory receptors, compared to our 6 million. That’s a nose 50 times more powerful than ours, yet they seem to struggle to hone in on their owner’s scent.

But no! They miss her AGAIN!

Once again they scramble around as if their human sensor is short-circuiting. They were so close, and you can see a glimmer in their eyes where they can tell she’s close but they don’t seem to understand that there is a such a place as behind the door.

And finally, at long last…

…not through their noses, not through their superior animal intuition, but by sheer dumb luck that one of them saw her behind the door on their third pass of that room. They should have noticed the camera set up in the room to record, that could have been a real giveaway!
