The saying, “it’s a small world,” is usually used when we come across somebody we know in the most unlikely of places.

We can all share stories of bumping into someone at a party after decades of no contact, or traveling thousands of miles on a vacation only to come across someone from your hometown.

And it’s as much of a small world for dogs as it is for humans!

If you have a dog, you probably know your local park better than anyone else. Not only are you familiar with all the best walking routes, but you’ve come to know the other dog walkers in the area, too.

It’s in a dog’s nature to try and make friends with everyone – human and animal – that he sees.

But when Jessica Zic was out for a walk in Nashville with her dog, Dolly, she noticed that Dolly was going extra crazy at the sight of another dog.

What made this situation even more interesting was that the other dog in question looked like Dolly’s twin.

Dolly, a Golden Doodle, and the dog she was racing across the park to meet, were pretty much identical, both sporting curly orange-brown fur coats, floppy ears and fluffy tails.

Of course, it’s not unlikely that you’ll ever come across dog that’s the same breed as your own pup while out and about, but in this case, the resemblance was uncanny.

While the dogs bonded, Jessica spoke to her pup’s new friend’s owner… and discovered something fascinating.

The dog that Dolly was greeting so enthusiastically was called Wally – and he was Dolly’s brother.

It transpired that Becky Bird, Wally’s owner, was taking a road trip from Chicago to Florida, and had stopped in Nashville along the way.

Becky realized that she’d seen Dolly on Instagram when she was a puppy, and the pieces quickly fell into place.

Wally and Dolly were siblings who were born in Wheaton, Missouri, earlier this year. The pups had both been adopted in May, when they were 8 weeks old.

And yet there’s no denying from the photos and videos of their reunion that the pups still recognized one another from the brief time they’d spent together.

Jessica knew that her story was too good to keep to herself, so she shared it on Facebook.

“Christmas came early for Dolly this year🥰🎄🐶As we were walking in Centennial Park today we saw a puppy that looked remarkably similar to Dolly. When we got closer the dog’s owner recognized Dolly from Instagram — it was her brother Wally who was stopping in Nash on a road trip from Chicago to Florida! The puppies got to play together for the first time since they were 8 weeks old❤️ #invisiblestring #goldendoodle”

The post received hundreds of reactions and shares, and strangers commented to thank Jessica for sharing the adorable story.

While Jessica hasn’t come out with any updates since the chance meet-up, we’d like to think that she’ll keep in touch with Becky from this moment on.

There’s nothing more special than family, as these pup siblings prove!

It’s easy to make up for lost time no matter how long you’ve spent apart from your loved ones.
