Movie theaters these days are becoming more and more unique. At one time, you went in for your movie, got some popcorn, and sat in your seat. But these days, you can find movie theaters that serve alcohol, a full dinner menu, and even ones that feature couches, recliners, and beds for snuggling.
One movie theater in Plano, Texas, has taken things to the next level.
K9 Cinemas invites moviegoers to bring up to two dogs to a showing. Not only that, but they also serve bottomless wine or four servings of whiskey. Talk about a puppy-filled, rollicking good time.
If your dog misses you when you leave the house, this movie theater might be perfect for you. It features a theater full of comfy couches where you can snuggle up with your canine companion.
“We have a big heart for our furry family members in our lives, and believe they should get a night out with you!” reads the company’s website.
K9 Cinemas has only been open since December but it’s already a hugely popular destination for dog owners in Plano.
All their showings are movies that your dog is also sure to enjoy — in fact, most of them are actually movies about dogs.
You won’t know what movie you’re going to see when you head for K9 Cinemas. The theater pulls out a surprise dog-themed flick every time you go. The biggest part is the experience of sitting in a movie theater with your dog and enjoying the movie together.
Of course, letting dogs come into a movie theater makes for a lot of special requirements.
But don’t worry, K9 Cinemas has those covered. Moviegoers can find snacks for both humans and dogs for a reasonable price. There’s also a concrete area where friendly dogs can meet one another and romp around.
But movies aren’t the only thing you can experience with your dog at K9 Cinemas.
The theater has themed activity nights as well, including Karaoke Margarita Night and Trivia Night. They even have date nights for couples to go to a movie with their dogs.
“Saturday’s will be couples/singles night with a movie,” reads the company’s Instagram account. “Because the true test for singles is ‘will my dog like you’? And couples need a date night with the pup!” [sic]
The theater claims to be the first doggie movie theater in the world.
It’s been featured in Southern Living, People, and even Time Magazine.
However, it’s not a doggie free-for-all, meaning the theater takes precautionary measures. Owners who bring their dogs to K9 Cinemas must provide proof that their pup is up-to-date on all vaccines and other vet treatments. All dogs must also be on a lead unless they’re in specific parts of the theater.
K9 Cinemas’ initial location was intended to be temporary.
Instead, it became such a popular idea, they moved to their current location in Plano. Now, pups of all shapes and sizes can enjoy a wholesome night out with the family.
