Bruno is a sweet-faced doggo that suffered unspeakable cruelty at the hands of others who did not value his life.

He was just a 1-year-old puppy when he lived chained off outside.

Bruno ended up losing his ear in a brutal attack by another dog who ripped off his ears while Bruno was unable to run away since he was tethered.

Despite all the ugliness Bruno had seen and the abuse he endured, that didn’t change his beautiful spirit. Bruno is a loving and resilient being.

The SPCA of Wake County said that he’s a big “love bug” with a tail that doesn’t stop wagging.

He’s an extremely friendly dog and loves on everyone he meets. He especially loved the company of a plush puppy stuffed animal that was given to him when he was rescued by the SPCA of Wake County.

The shelter planned an indefinite stay for him not knowing if he could be adopted.

During this time, Bruno became very attached to his sweet puppy.

He was very happy to no longer be alone. One day the shelter staff found out just how much Bruno wanted someone to relate to.

“Bruno tore one of the ears off his favorite stuffed toy — the same ear he’s missing himself,” the shelter wrote on Facebook. “The staff member who found this couldn’t believe it. Bruno knows there’s nothing wrong with him, and now he has a best friend just like him to prove it.”

The SPCA of Wake County couldn’t help but post the story about Bruno on their Facebook page.

That’s when the internet fell in love with Bruno. And so did his future dad.

After seeing Bruno’s post, many people started sharing his story online hoping to help him get adopted.

And it worked! Bruno recently went home with his new dad who loves him very much.

“[J]ust like that, Bruno has a new dad!!! Of course, his matching stuffie HAS to go with him so they can be buds forever,” the shelter wrote in an addition post. “Bruno’s adopter loves him just the way he is and promised to show Bruno nothing but unconditional love for the rest of his life.”

Bruno has now turned the page on a new chapter in his life and has changed his story to have a very happy ending.

Spc. Levi Pinnix was actually second on the list to adopt Bruno.

However, the first adoption fell through and Bruno is where he was truly meant to be.

“They opened the door and the first thing he does is run up to you with his tail wagging,” Pinnix said. “After about 30 minutes of playing with him, I knew I was taking him home.”

The 27-year-old has been in the U.S. Army since 2021 and is stationed at Fort Bragg. Pinnix said he thought Bruno might be skittish because of his background.

But that isn’t the case at all.

Bruno is exceptionally loving and warm and likes to be around people. He is surprised by how loving Bruno is.

He and Bruno enjoy spending time together. Bruno still has the stuffed dog that he loves to curl up on the couch with.

Now both Pinnix and Bruno’s lives are immensely better because of each other.
