A dog is man’s best friend, they say. And, indeed, it is true: dogs are more than just pets. They are loyal, understanding, and act like the friend anyone could ask for.

Who doesn’t love getting back from work and being greeted by a happy snout and a wagging tail? Who doesn’t enjoy playing catch with their furry friend? Or snuggling with them on the couch while watching TV? Let’s admit it, everyone loves dogs and they enjoy their company.

Now, what about being a dog owner when you’re not so young anymore? How could that feel?

Well, it seems that dogs are beneficial for seniors for a number of reasons.

First of all, with old age comes loneliness, as other old family members pass away or children have their own families and don’t have enough time for them anymore. That’s why having a dog to keep you company at that point is extremely helpful.

Also, dogs have been found to have a positive effect on symptoms of depression that come from either loneliness or just the thought that you get older and your time in this world is running out. Finally, there have been cases in which elderly people with memory loss have somehow recalled memories through their interaction with pets.

Having said all that, it is no wonder elderly people often own dogs, like the man in the video that follows.

This senior citizen owns a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog and he walks him every day on the streets around his neighborhood. One day, a neighbor saw the two of them passing by, and they were so amazed by the relationship the two of them share, that they decided to capture part of their walk on camera.

In the video, the dog can be seen wait for its owner, while the man is slowly walking behind his pet. The doggo takes a couple of steps, then stops and checks on the man, then takes a couple more steps, and so on.

The video was then uploaded on YouTube, where it attracted a lot of attention and positive comments.

“Most dogs would simply run off in excitement, but this caring dog patiently waits for his owner during their daytime walk,” reads the description of the video.

The YouTube community simply loved the little canine and dedicated lots of comments to it.

“So heartwarming.❤ This dog has more feelings than most [people],” someone wrote, while someone else commented: “That doggo is a kind, caring and good doggo. Bless [you] doggo and hope good treats come [your] way.”

Of course, it could be that the dog is old as well, meaning that it can’t really run as a younger pup would do, but it could still have to do with the breed.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are known for their tendency to follow their owners everywhere- practically, a King Charles owner can’t go anywhere on their own- they are attached to their humans and love to keep them company. So, this could be the reason why the dog won’t leave its owner alone even for a few steps.

This heartwarming story reminds us that humans and dogs can be the best of friends.
