The love of a dog is about as innocent and touching as you can get. You can be certain that they just love you for who you are because they don’t have anything to get from lying (aside from an occasional treat). If a dog loves you, it’s most likely genuine – they aren’t in the business of faking.
For Fulmine the Yorkie, Leonardo was the human that he loved with all his heart.
Fulmine and Leonardo lived out in the Italian countryside and had the best relationship. Sara Sechi, Leonardos, daughter, explained:
“They were very affectionate,” Sechi told The Dodo. “They were always cuddling.”
Like all things, however, their time had to come to an end.
Most of the time, it’s the dog who passes on, but this time was different.
Humans understand that dogs don’t live as long as we do and recognize that we will inevitably see our dogs pass on. In the case of Leonardo and Fulmine, however, the roles were reversed. Leonardo was battling with an illness and finally passed on after the struggle.
Leonardo was in the hospital for quite a while, and during that time the family noticed how much Fulmine missed him.
“Every time a car approached, Fulmine would run to the gate in case it was my father,” Sechi said.
The poor pup had no idea what happened and just wanted to see his friend. Every day as cars pulled up, he ran over to see if it was his missing friend so he could get up into his lap again.
When Leonardo finally passed, they had a funeral and laid him to rest.
The day after the funeral, however, Sara and her son went to the cemetery to put some flowers on his grave. The moment was a somber one… until they realized that someone was there to meet them!
Fulmine was literally sitting at the grave when they arrived!
Fulmine had escaped from the house and walked the two miles to the place where Leonardo was placed. He didn’t have anyone who brought him there and somehow made a beeline to the EXACT spot that his old friend was buried.
Despite not seeing his friend in weeks, he knew exactly where he would be.
“I did not expect to find him there,” Sechi said. “He hadn’t been at the funeral. I have no idea how he knew where to go.”
As the days went on, the neighbors reported seeing the little dog making his way back and forth from the house to the cemetery. They think that he goes nearly every day to see his friend.
Even with the daily appearances, they have zero idea how he learned to get there.
“I like to think he’s guided by his love for my father. Or that my father led him there,” Sechi said. “It’s one of those strange things without a real explanation.”
Whether Fulmine has a connection with his friend’s spirit or someone showed him the way, we may never know. We do know that only a dog who truly loved his friend would do something as incredible as this.
Now, Fulmine lives with Sara and her son!
