It worked – almost.

Leo is the Alpha.

This mostly white kitty sits on top of the staircase where he can look down on his faithful subjects with pride. He rules with an iron fist to keep them loyal. He defends his kingdom with courage and will do anything to ensure discipline among his followers.

Except for that darned dog.

Pinky may be very pretty but a face like that won’t make Leo bend the rules. She’s made her way up all the way to the last step. Now all Pinky needs to do is get past the cat. If she can.

This dog is lucky her human mom is there to guide her. Leo doesn’t mind. It’s his rules anyway. And it doesn’t matter if they wear the same colors. Rules are rules, dog!

Look at Leo’s intense stare.

Pinky looks up and around, pretending to be nonchalant so as to avoid the cat’s eyes. It goes on for a good fifteen seconds before Pinky looks up at her hooman seeking her wise counsel. Mom is like one of those old and wise characters who guides the underdogs. (Lol)

“You gotta’ rush. You gotta’ rush right by him. Come on, you gotta’ hurry. Be brave!”

Says the wise lady.

At this point, mom has taken the role of Gandalf and Galadriel in one body. Pinky tries a little deception. She sits on the steps sideways, giving Leo a sidelong glance, then up at mom as if seeking her approval. Mind games.

Light bulb moment!

With a little support from mom, Pinky gets up and walks backwards. She makes it to the top. The dog sits right next to the cat, who still hasn’t taken his eyes off her the entire time. Leo is obsessed.

Pinky the dog gives Leo the cat a short look as if to say that she means no harm and just wants to visit mom in her bedroom. Mom tells Pinky to try and bolt past the cat right into her room. Naturally, Leo heard her.

Talk about lightning quick reflexes!

The moment Pinky turns around and takes off for mom’s room, Leo instinctively reaches out with both paws trying to stop the dog from getting through. It’s so fast you’d have to replay it to catch all the details. Mom is the cat-alyst.

Poor Pinky!

No one knows what happened after but it looks like Leo chased the dog all the way inside the room. Those fresh sheets need changing then. No way is that dog getting away with it. But is it the cat’s fault? With all pets, it’s the owners directly responsible for the behavior of their furry friends. The right upbringing is key to a happy and healthy relationship with pets and humans.

Cats, like dogs, get territorial. It doesn’t even have to be the entire place. Just a part of it will do. Like Leo and the stairs here. It’s like he owns the entire second floor. Leo seems to be okay with Pinky in general but certain lines cannot be crossed.

In fact, Leo was really more on the defensive here. Unlike other cats who would go out of their way to attack another cat or dog, he just didn’t want anyone crossing over. Pinky got in though. Better luck next time, Leo.
