Dogs don’t have to be geniuses to know when someone has done something good for them. And they’re not above thanking humans for doing them a solid.
To be fair, any time a dog displays a somewhat human emotion, our hearts tend to melt – and this video of a dog acknowledging that he’s being saved is no different.
According to Rumble Viral, who purchased the story and video, a woman was driving around one day in July of 2018 and saw a dog chained up. She figured its owner was around somewhere, but couldn’t sleep that night worrying that the dog may have been abandoned there.
When she returned the following day, her fears were confirmed. Someone had left the dog there, trapped, to die. It had gone days without food, water, or shelter.
And, yes, we’re shaking our heads too at just how callous and cruel a human could be.
But the kind woman who came back for the pup was not about to let it die. She untied him from his 2-foot chain and put him right in her car. And as he sat in the front seat, looking for a little attention and seemingly thanking her with some love, she began to cry.
And then we began to cry, naturally.
According to the caption posted on Viral Hog’s version of the video, the rescuer said:
“It broke my heart that he’d been neglected and was dying and wasn’t mad at me but grateful. I started to cry and again, his focus shifted from himself to now my needs. I couldn’t believe so much love came from an animal that literally just came from a situation like he was in.”
It’s heartbreaking to think about how much affection this dog was still capable of after being treated so unconscionably by humans.
Many commenters sent kudos to the woman and warm wishes that the dog would find a loving home.
“We truly don’t deserve dogs. They deserve so much better than how they are treated in today’s society. It baffles me that some claim that dogs can’t feel or have emotions, even though there are videos like this. I hope that cute little guy/gal finds the perfect family.”
Others pointed out one glaring issue that continues to perplex us as well:
“How is she driving?!? One hand is petting the dog and the other hand is holding the camera…”
It’s a question that will remain unanswered. We just hope she was more careful than it appears!
We’re still caught up on the fact that the dog seems genuinely grateful and shows it by continuously placing his paw on the woman, even though he’s never seen her before.
It’s as if she’s trying to comfort her at times since she’s crying!
“I love how this sweet pup seems so concerned for her – She saved him and he’s saving her right back,” said a viewer.
It’s unclear if she took the pup to a shelter or adopted him herself, but regardless, he’s in a far better situation now than he was when she rescued him.
