Meghan Specksgoor was very excited for her Christmas vacation in New York City. There was just one problem: Specksgoor needed someone to babysit her four-year-old dog, Chance.
Specksgoor and Chance have been completely inseparable since she first adopted him from Richmond Animal League (RAL) in Chesterfield, Virginia.
Specksgoor explained to Bored Panda that it was love at first sight:
“I walked into [there] with a friend of mine who was looking for a puppy. And walked out with a completed application for ‘Chap.’ ‘Chap’ was brought to RAL with a shattered jaw from someone shooting him. We had surgery done to get a plate put in his jaw and he has been perfect ever since. He’s been re-named after my favorite rapper “Chance the Rapper,” and I thought it was fitting since he has been given a second chance at life.”
Since Specksgoor and her dog are so bonded, she was nervous about finding a babysitter for her pup. But then, she realized who the perfect person was: her dad!
“They usually get along great,” Meghan told Bored Panda. “Chance is allowed to do whatever he wants with my dad – like an actual grandchild – and is given all sorts of treats the whole time he’s with him.”
Like any worried dog mom, Specksgoor wanted to get updates on how Chance was doing while she was away. To Specksgoor’s surprise, her dad decided to get a bit creative with these updates.
Specksgoor’s dad began texting photos of Chance to his daughter. Along with the photos, he included hilarious updates “written” by Chance.
The first message included a photo of Chance looking at the camera with big puppy eyes. Under it, he asked his mom what kind of food he could eat.
The messages kept coming after that. One message revealed that Chance and his granddad had gone for a picnic and to the nail salon for a little beauty treatment.
Another message showed the dog and his grandpa having a great time together in the park.
After their busy day, the pair settled down and went to sleep together.
Specksgoor put screenshots of these adorable messages on Twitter and they quickly went viral, getting over 200,000 likes and retweets. Everyone’s hearts melted when they saw how much fun Chance and his grandpa were having together.
One person pointed out that you could see Chance’s smile getting wider with each photo.

Even though Chance is now internet famous, he hasn’t let it go to his head—he still loves nothing more than spending time with his mom and going on adventures with her.
In March 2018, Specksgoor added another dog to her family: a little Golden Retriever puppy named Fin. We’re sure Specksgoor’s dad is excited to get to babysit both of these cute boys!
Specksgoor’s dad was a great babysitter who showered his granddog with love and fun. Chance is one lucky pup!
