The humble dachshund is a versatile breed that make for great family pets. Originally bred to hunt badgers, they even got their name for being tough enough to pull them from their burrows (Dachs being German for badger and hund for dog). Known for their peculiar shape, a journalist by the name of H.L. Mencken famously described them as “half a dog high and a dog and a half long.”
Even when they aren’t hunting badgers, they still enjoy a good romp around with friends.
And that could mean any kind of friend!
Sometimes, that could even mean an inanimate friend. And as it turns out, “wiener” dogs aren’t only inclined to pull things out of burrows, but into them too. In this case, one adorable wee sausage dog named Arvo will stop at nothing to get his best friend Teddy into his little home.
But it ain’t all that easy!
It would seem that dragging a massive teddy bear into a tiny kennel is not as easy as it may seem, even for an almost purpose-built breed as the dachshund. When the bear’s big booty can’t quite fit, little Arvo has to go back to square one. He’s going to have to try a different approach.
No, that bear isn’t breakdancing…
…But he is trying to back it up, right into Arvo’s kennel. There must be an easier way little Arvo! You have to hand it to him though, what he lacks in stature, he makes up for with pure, unbridled determination.
You’re gonna have to try something a little smarter than that Arvo!
This long-haired fella just can’t seem to get it right.
Once again, a new plan of attack is required.
Little Arvo may have the determination to keep trying, but for sure he needs to come up with a better plan. Simple logic would tell anyone that if it’s not going to fit one way, you’re going to have to try something completely different. Well, it seems that Arvo eventually does figure it out and tries to pull the bear in head first. There ya go buddy!
According to Dogtime.com, the dachshund breed is rather remarkable.
“Dachshunds are a delightful addition to any family, which is why they have ranked near the top of most popular dogs lists since the 1950s. Their cute appearance and lively disposition have inspired many affectionate nicknames for the breed, including wiener dog, hot dog, sausage dog, Doxie, Dashie, and (especially in Germany) Teckels, Dachels, or Dachsels”
No matter what you decide to call them, there’s no denying that they’re a truly special breed!
Once he’s got the head in, he starts winning.
Next, all he’s got to do is get the rest in! It seems like this little guy has finally figured out a game-plan for getting the job done! With one leg in, he’s just got one left to go. Many viewers clocked that this is typical dachshund behaviour:
