While going to the bar to enjoy some solitude can offer some nice time to self-reflect, sometimes it’s just as nice to go and enjoy a happy hour with a friend.

But imagine going to a bar and sitting to have a drink, only to look over and have this face looking at you.

As a dog lover and wine lover, that is the best of both worlds to me.

As it turns out, I’m not the only one who feels that way. In fact, one bar decided to combine a bar setting with dogs in a venture they call, “the world’s first dog tap house”.

This dog tap house is known as Fido’s Tap House, located near Portland in Tigard, Oregon.

The premise of Fido’s is simple: They took 40 taps of craft beer, cider and wine and added some lovable puppies and dogs from a nearby rescue shelter into the mix.

There is plenty of dog-themed art decorating the walls and the televisions play dog videos on repeat. Next to the bar area, there is a “day room” where people can play with and possibly adopt dogs from the Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals (OFOSA) charity.

You might think Fido’s is like any other dog-friendly bar, but they take it a step further by helping shelter dogs to find their forever homes in a fun, creative environment.

In fact, Fido’s has earned a reputation for itself, becoming one of the top 30 places to visit in Oregon.

For those of you who do not approve of beer or wine, you probably think it’s Fido’s is a bad idea. After all, who’s to stop people from adopting too many dogs if they have had one too many drinks?

Fido’s founder Scott Porter thought of that when finalizing his bar’s concept.

“We don’t want anybody here with a couple drinks, then you wake up in the morning with a leash in your hand and somebody licking your face,” Porter told Willamette Week.

If a bar patron happens to meet a furry friend that they are fond of, Fido’s follows the OFOSA adoption policies of having the dog meet every family member and scheduling a meeting with an adoption counselor.

As if Fido’s wasn’t already generous in helping these shelter pups find loving families, Fido’s Tap House also donates a quarter of the profits from the taproom to rescue charities. Also, any dog-focused nonprofits can hold events at the bar for free.

Seeing as Fido’s just opened on February 13 of this year, it’s to be determined whether the bar will have a great impact on the animal shelter community. But I think the bar is off to a great start, and I know I will definitely be stopping by if I ever find myself in Oregon.

I hope you find your new furry best friend! Cheers!
