We all know the look a dog gives us when it wants our food. It’s the big-eyed stare that slowly but surely melts your will power until eventually you fold and give them your last remaining piece of chicken that you were too full to eat anyway. There’s no greater test of human willpower in the world than a big pair of glistening puppy eyes.
And you can bet they’ll use them whenever they want a nibble of your leftovers.
Some dogs even go beyond the puppy-eyes technique, and to varying degrees of success!
Some are sneaky about it, others…not so much. Some dogs are a bit less tact and a lot more matter-of-fact about when they want some of our meals. Some, it would seem have a lot to learn in the realm of table manners. In fact, some dogs will resort to grabbing the food straight off of your plate.
One such doggo would be this French Bulldog named Baloo, who left his table manners well away from the table.
Kanato Mori, a baby boy from Japan was the victim of Baloo’s endeavour for a snack. In the instant that Kanato lost focus of his treat, Baloo did not miss a beat to jump in and steal a bite.
After a brief tug of war, the bite is Baloo’s.
At first Kanato puts up a bit of a fight, but he quickly abandons this battle and resolves to let Baloo get his nibble. Baloo is pretty tenacious in his attempt to get the cracker, and something tells me he’s not going to stop at this first bite…
Eventually Kanato frees the cracker.
But not for very long! Soon Baloo goes in for another bite and the tug of war resumes. It does seem however, that with each attempt Kanato becomes happier to let Baloo eat his cracker.
Eventually, it seems as if Kanato wants to give Baloo the cracker after all.
He seems resolved in that he will just hand the cracker to his doggy pal, and let his friend have it. His face is blank, seemingly at peace with having lost his snack to Baloo.
But then…reality seems to set in, and it is not pretty!
As if remembering some terrible tragedy, Kanato seems to realize that his dear cracker is gone forever. Cold reality washes over him in an instant, and he is immediately brought to tears.
But if Baloo taketh away, he giveth too!
If he shares in taking Kanato’s food, he is also ready to share in his woe. As the little boy wails, so does he. Is this out of sympathy, or is he mocking our young friend? Mind you, it doesn’t seem to bring Kanato much relief or improve his mood at all, it does seem that Baloo just wants to share in whatever Kanato is doing. If that’s not friendship, then what is?
