It’s never easy to leave a pet behind.
Whether it’s just to go out shopping for the day or if you’re spending some time on vacation, life’s just a little less vibrant without our pets.
It’s even harder if you’re on deployment.
Military personnel knows all too well the heartache that comes with leaving a pet behind.
Servicemen and women have to leave their families for often unknown lengths of time to do their duty.
While they know their family will miss them and remember them, the same cannot be said for their pets.
Since pets cannot speak for themselves you never know what your pet is thinking when you leave them behind.
One soldier wasn’t sure her dog would remember her.
Casandra Cabrera was on deployment overseas with the US Army.
Her deployment was for 10 months.
She was able to communicate with her family and friends to let them know she missed them.
Yet, she could not do the same with her dog, Missy May, and she was missing him terribly.
Casandra explains that she, “left when she had just turned 1, and wasn’t sure if she would remember me after all that time.”
Casandra had nothing to worry about.
Casandra’s mother, Robbi Cabrera, brought Missy May to the airport with her to pick up Casandra from her deployment.
They did not want to delay Casandra and Missy May’s reunion by one minute! Missy May does not realize what she is doing there and is standing with Robbi very calmly.
Yet, the moment Missy May spots Casandra she knows exactly who it is and runs straight towards her.
She couldn’t be held back.
Robbi has to let go of Missy May’s leash, so Missy can show just how ecstatic she is. She is jumping all over her mom in complete happiness.
Missy May cannot get enough of Casandra. Missy May missed Casandra just as much as Casandra missed her.
Missy May cannot believe her eyes, her mother is home. Casandra tries to stand up after a few seconds.
But Missy May is not having that.
Missy May stands on her hind legs to stay as close as possible to her mom. She even starts to lick her face and Casandra does not even mind.
She has the biggest smile on her face and is just as excited to be reunited.
Missy May runs back to Robbi, almost as to tell her that Casandra is here, but runs back to Casandra quickly.
Missy May and Casandra’s reunion is filled with hugs, kisses, and long-awaited pets.
Every time Missy May falls back onto all fours, she just jumps right back up into her mom’s arms.
It is the most adorable reunion.
Casandra has a human family waiting to greet her as well, but it was Missy May that got the first hugs and kisses, even over Casandra’s mom, Robbi.
Of course, Grandma Robbie doesn’t mind if Missy May steals a few first kisses. She knows how much Missy’s been hoping to give them to her.
Robbi and Missy May are proud of Casandra’s service and so are we. Welcome home Casandra.
