The dog would leave at the same time each night. The owner wanted to know what he was up to.
A woman who lived in a Brazilian Favela took a shine to a dog that was roaming the street. She decided to adopt him.
Soon, she and the dog became close. But the owner noticed that the dog would often act strange.
Every evening, the dog would leave the home when he thought that the owner had fallen asleep.
Hours later, the dog would come back. And he would be incredibly worn out.
So the owner decided to follow this dog and discover what he was up to.
One evening, she followed him, trying to stay hidden.
Eventually, the dog stopped at the corner of a street and waited.
Then a woman appeared from some trees. This woman greeted the dog. She placed a plastic bag on the ground and opened it. It was filled with food.
At first, the dog ate the food. Then he stopped and looked at the woman again. The woman tied up the bag.
The dog held the bag in his mouth and moved on.
So the owner approached the woman who had handed the dog the plastic bag to ask her what was going on.
The woman revealed that she had known the dog for years. She had also been feeding the dog for just as long. She didn’t know where he was taking the rest of the food, though.
So the next night, the owner followed the dog again. This time she wanted to see where the dog was taking the bag of food.
Eventually, the dog stopped with the bag in another spot. Some homeless dogs, cats, a hen and her chicks came up to him. Soon, they all started eating from the bag.
The owner realized that the dog still wanted to look out for his friends, even if he had been adopted.
The owner made a big decision in that moment. She decided to take in all of the animals. Soon, her home was filled. Sure, it was a bit hectic, but at least the animals now had somewhere safe to live.
A video of this amazing dog and owner then appeared on YouTube.
It soon went viral. To date, it has gained over 1.1 million views. It also has more than 33,000 likes and 1,000 comments. People have been saying things like this:
Of course, the sad truth is that while these animals had each other and eventually humans for help, many animals do not.
If only every homeless dog and cat could find such happiness!
According to the Animal Rights News Agency, 30 million dogs and cats were homeless in Brazil in 2019. Of this figure, about 20 million were dogs and 10 million were cats. Luckily, the source also states that a cultural shift is taking place within the country, meaning that more pet owners are spaying and neutering their pets. Additionally, more and more animal shelters are appearing across the nation.
