A good Samaritan was shocked when they saw a tiny 3-month-old puppy laying on the side of the highway.

The person quickly stopped their car and went to check on the puppy. When they reached it, they saw that the poor dog was covered in duct tape, and he was also badly injured. The good Samaritan put the puppy in their car and drove it straight over to their local animal shelter, Tracy Animal Services in Tracy, California.

Vets at Tracy Animal Services were shocked when they saw the puppy’s injuries. Tracy Animal Services supervisor Ben Miller told KTXL Sacramento that this was the most significant case of animal abuse he’d seen in his eleven years working at the shelter.

“This is a very obvious, very horrific case of animal cruelty,” Miller said. “It had duct tape around its muzzle and its front legs, as well as some significant lacerations, significant enough that the skull was visible. “

The vet team at Tracy Animal Services quickly began doing surgery on the poor puppy. They stitched up his cuts and put a temporary drainage pipe into his head wound. Because of all his stitches, they decided to name the little puppy Frankie, short for Frankenstein.

Once Frankie started feeling better, his playful personality came out. The little puppy loves playing with squeaky toys, and he also has a huge appetite. Even though he’s been through a lot in his three months of life, Frankie is a cheerful pup who loves the people who care for him.

The vets are thrilled that Frankie is doing so well, and now, they’re searching as hard as they can for the cruel person who abused him. They’re hoping that they’ll catch the person before they can hurt any other animals.

Tracy Animal Services shared little Frankie’s story on Facebook, and the post quickly went viral.

UPDATE: Frankie appreciates the outpouring of love and support he has recieved from far and wide! He is continuing on…
