When 33-year-old Ryan Jessen was suddenly struck down with a terrible headache, he thought that he was having a migraine. But sadly, it became apparent that Ryan’s headache was being caused by a ventricular brain haemorrhage, and he was soon fighting for his life at Rideout Memorial Hospital.
Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done to save Ryan, but staff wanted to go above and beyond to help the family feel a little less broken.
Ryan’s dog, Molly, was a big part of his life, and Ryan’s family knew that his passing was going to hit her hard. So with the hospital staff’s permission, they were able to bring Molly right to her owner’s bed to say goodbye to him.
“Rideout Memorial Hospital did the sweetest thing for us and allowed us to bring my brother’s dog in to “say goodbye” so she’d know why her human never came home,” Michelle explained in the video’s caption. “If you knew my brother, he really loved his sweet dog.”
In the touching video, Molly sits on Ryan’s bed, sniffing at her owner’s face in curiosity.
Ryan’s face is covered with a number of tubes which are helping him to breathe, but it’s clear that Molly still recognises her owner. She seems confused as to why he is lying so still, but it’s as if she’d picked up on the emotions in the room, as she appears incredibly calm and sombre.
As the family members sniff back their tears, Ryan’s mom and dad choke out, “Bye bye, daddy Ryan,” and it’s enough to break our hearts.
It’s unclear what exactly brought on Ryan’s brain haemorrhage, but his sister explains that the doctors have some suspicions.
“They think it was brought on by high blood pressure, and there’s speculation that his frequent consumption of energy drinks may have contributed,” she told everyone on Facebook.
Michelle and her family were overwhelmed by the love and support that came from strangers all over the world in response to her touching video. She added in a message of thanks to those who had shared their stories with her, and wished her well:
“THANK YOU to everybody for the outpouring of support. We are sincerely touched and humbled by others’ stories, their sharing in our sadness and the kindness of so many people.”
Naturally, many people were curious about what would happen to Molly now that her daddy had passed away.
But luckily, Molly had been brought into a family of dog-lovers, and there was no way that they were going to give her up.
“Don’t worry about the dog! We’re keeping her!!!” Michelle reassured the Facebook community. “She’s part of the family.”
We’re so pleased that Molly is going to remain in a loving home, and we hope that she brings comfort to Ryan’s family as they get through his loss. Watch the touching video below- and be warned, you might need a pack of tissues nearby!
