We often hear stories of humans rescuing dogs (and we love them), but much less often do we hear the reverse – dogs rescuing humans!

If there was ever a guardian animal, dogs probably top the list. They seem to have an innate sense of danger and the ability to selflessly act in times of need.

One story shows that on land and in water, dogs are the best guardian animals the world has ever seen!

A man and his dog were out for a day in the sun in Australia not long ago when a life-or-death situation presented itself. The two were at the beach (the seasons are flipped down there, so January is their hot weather) when the man noticed a kid out in the water.

As he and his dog ran closer to where the river and ocean met, it became clear what was going on.

The tide was going in and was sucking a kid out into a nearby rocky outcrop. For a young kid who wasn’t all that comfortable in the water, the moment was panic-ridden and fraught with danger.

The man started getting ready to jump into the water when he noticed something about his dog.

Max is a Staffy-Bulldog mix and is as sweet as can be. For his day at the beach, he was decked out in a lifejacket and was a capable swimmer, even without it.

Max was already in the water and much closer. The man had confidence in his dog and his ability to rescue the boy.

As the kid started crying for help, Max veered over to where he was and paddled to the rescue. Getting close enough to touch, the kid grabbed onto the handle on the back of Max’s lifejacket and held on for dear life.

With a few quick bursts of energy, Max paddled them to the shore!

Without any issue, the kid was able to get back to shore and into the arms of a distraught mom.

The eventful day took a toll on the young child, but Max was as happy as ever! Without a hitch, the lovable pup got along with his day, honored to do his duty and help a little boy who needed it.

As we mentioned, dogs have an innate sense of danger.

Compared to humans, dogs have a few advantages when it comes to detecting threats in their environment! Dogs Best Life says:

You’ve probably heard that dogs are men’s best friend, and while that’s definitely true, many people don’t know the ways dogs can act protective and sense looming danger. That’s why it’s important to learn to differentiate between various aspects of dog behavior so you’ll know how to recognize the warning signs when dogs sense danger so you can take steps to protect yourself.

If a dog sense danger, you can probably assume that they know something you don’t!
