The saying “fight like cat and dog” has been around for a long time – and for good reason. Dogs and cats are well known for not getting along, and if the dog isn’t chasing the cat, then it’s the cat who’s attacking the dog with their razor-sharp claws. Of course, cats and dogs don’t always fight so obviously, and the rivalry can be solidified by something as simple as the cat stealing the dog’s bed.
But while some cats and dogs simply can’t stand each other, this isn’t the case for all of our pets. In fact, some dogs and cats love each other so much that they choose to help each other out in times of need.
So when one dog from Texas spotted a kitten who was in urgent need of help, she decided to take her inside of her very own home. The loving dog guided the kitten the whole way, and once inside she was cared for by the dog’s owners. The kitten has since been adopted and is doing great, and it’s all thanks to the dog who decided to help her!
The adorable moment was caught on camera and was later posted onto YouTube by Happily. It now has over 1.5 million views, as well as thousands of likes from people who wanted to express their love for the video.
Hazel, who is a mixture between a Yorkie, Chihuahua, and poodle, lives in Abilene, Texas, with her mom Monica, 48. The caption of the video explains how Hazel had first come across the kitten and felt inclined to help it:
“Monica peered outdoors after Hazel did not come back from her “restroom” break and instead kept drawing attention to a faint cry underneath their shed. Hazel persisted, staying out in the rain until Monica, from Abilene, Texas, was met by a surprise: her dog trotting down the driveway, the squealing kitten in tow.”
Monica pulled out her camera and began to film the special moment, and the video is enough to melt even the coldest of hearts. As the rain pours down outside, you can see Hazel guiding the soaking wet kitten to her house. The sweet dog keeps a firm eye on the kitten, and every time the kitten stops, Hazel gently prompts her to keep going.
Hazel must be getting soaked herself, but she selflessly goes at the pace of the kitten to make sure that she gets inside safely. And when the kitten couldn’t make it up the step into Hazel’s home, she gently took it in her mouth and carried it up.
As soon as the kitten was safely inside, Monica quickly fed and dried it off, all under the watchful eye of Hazel, of course. It didn’t seem that the kitten – who Monica named Sheba – had a home, so Monica called on her brother, Michael, to look after it.
Sheba has now settled happily into her new home, and it’s all thanks to Hazel’s loving act of kindness that the little kitten is safe and well. Watch the adorable video below.
