It’s pretty normal to see a person riding a horse and a dog running beside them, but how many times have you ever seen a dog riding a horse?
One little Corgi recently taught himself how to do just that. His name is Roper, and he is a corgi. He likes to visit his neighbors, and one of those neighbors just so happens to have a pony that Roper is apparently pretty fond of.
One day, Callie Schenker pulled into her driveway and, as usual, her animals were there to meet her.
It was then that she noticed her one-eyed pony Cricket had a stowaway. The neighbor’s dog was sitting on his back. As the pony walked around, the dog stayed where he was.
She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. The dog had hung out around the pony before, but she had ever seen it jump on his back. She grabbed her phone and started recording. She then posted the video on Facebook for her friends to see. Little did she know, it would go viral.
On the post she said:
“I can’t make this stuff up!!! So, we pull back in our driveway tonight and this is what we see. This is not our dog! But apparently him and Cricket the one-eyed wonder pony are best friends. I’m stealing the dog, new circus act!”
After people started watching the video and sharing it, it went viral.
She said that by the next morning, she had over 400 notifications waiting for her. She was surprised that so many people had seen her video and liked it enough to share it with others. After getting so much attention from the video, she created a Facebook page for Cricket and his friends.
Eventually, a local newspaper called her for more information. During an interview with The Springfield News-Leader, she said:
“He rode it like people. That, to us, is the killer of the video — that he actually stayed on.”
She also explained that the dog belongs to her neighbors, who are Mennonites and do not have the internet.
They likely haven’t seen the video and aren’t aware that their dog is an internet celebrity. The dog is no stranger to Schenker’s farm. She said he makes himself at home and even comes in the doggy door to eat her own dog’s food. Now, he’s taking it upon himself to ride her pony.
She said that a few days before the video, she did catch the dog on the pony’s back but only had time to snap a photo before he jumped off. He was probably afraid he would get in trouble.
She continued:
“I’m really glad everyone got a good laugh out of it — if they got a laugh from the actual dog or a laugh from my laugh. I’m glad it’s something happy this time instead of something sad in the news.”
As long as the pony doesn’t mind and the dog seems to know what he’s doing, what harm could come from this?
So, this corgi wanted to take some riding lessons. If nobody would teach him how to ride the neighbor’s pony, he was going to learn how to do it himself. Even if it was behind everyone’s back.
But there’s no hiding it now. Would everyone like to see him in a little cowboy hat and some chaps?
