Today’s story is about the bond between a cow and a pooch.
A little dog named Rookie has been living on a farm with a bunch of farm animals and he has found himself attached to the cows. The owner shared that Rookie had lost his mom when he was young, and to cope with the loss, the pooch started to hang out with the cows in the barn. Rookie became really fond of them — particularly with one of the cows who he treated as his mother.
The cow did not even mind taking care of a little pup as her own, and she would play, cuddle, and even let the pooch sleep on her back when he gets tired. Rookie and the cow had bonded for two years, and at that point, it just became hard to separate them.
Unfortunately, times were rough and the farmer had to sell the cow.
Taking care of both cows took much work for the farmer couple and so they decided to sell one of them instead, leaving one at the farm to accompany Rookie. The farmers removed the rope that tied the cow inside the barn and dragged it outside the gates for the buyers to get her.
Rookie did not take it too well, as just by looking at her foster mom, he already realized that they were going to be separated. The pooch teared up seeing the cow being dragged away outside, and he barked and barked but that was not enough to persuade them to stop.
As soon as they were gone, Rookie ran outside to find the cow.
Rookie heard his friend bellowing in the distance, and he followed that noise to find where the cow had gone. The owner noticed Rookie running away but he was so fast that they could not stop him. Luckily, the place where the cow was transferred was just meters away from their farm.
Rookie invited himself into the barn and found his bovine mom anxiously waiting for him. As sweet as their reunion was, the owner had to cut it short by taking Rookie home. Rookie just struggled on the way home as his owner carried him back to the farm.
Rookie became depressed, and it seemed that there was nothing that could cheer him up.
The separation hit Rookie very hard that he lost the motivation to do anything. Not even a bowl of food could cheer the crestfallen pooch, leaving him with his head down on the ground. Furthermore, Rookie spent a lot of his energy howling and crying out at the street, hoping that it would help him see his friend once more.
The farmers decided that it is best to take back their cow.
They could not bear seeing the pooch weeping and they decided to bring the cow back home. As expected, Rookie jolted with joy as soon as he was reunited with his friend.
The farmers had to work to get Rookie to socialize and make other friends; in fact, they tried rubbing off some cow scent to another dog in hopes that Rookie would pick up that scent. It is going pretty well for him, but we all know that it is impossible to erase the bond between him and the cow.
Animal bonds are beautiful, and we humans have so much to learn from them.
The lesson lies in the fact that animals could form relationships with others even though they are not of the same species. Rookie and his mom show far animals are willing to go for the ones they love!
