Do you know the movie Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey? The movie tells the story of three pets (two dogs and a cat) who make their way through the wilderness to find their way back home.

This incredible story describes a real-life example of Homeward Bound. Talk about fiction becoming reality.

This is Mo, a 14-year-old Chesapeake retriever and former hunter. She is a darling family member of Darwin and Cindy Cameron.

Mo went missing from a September hunting trip for nine months. During that time, she survived one of the harshest winters in Idaho and survived in very dangerous territory.

At the time, Mo still joined the Cameron family for hunting trips, though she typically stays in the cabin.

“The day she went missing, the other guys took off and went hunting and I had to run to town … Mo was asleep on the couch and I came home and the grandson of one of our hunting partners had opened the door to play ball with Mo and when Mo realized I wasn’t there she took off to find me,” Darwin Cameron said on “Good Morning America”.

“If you know anything about Idaho winters, this one was not a normal one. Record snowfalls, highest snowfalls and coldest temperatures in over 100 years,” he added. “So to think that she was smart enough and tenacious enough to figure out how to do that, that’s pretty good for a little town dog, we’re just amazed.”

Indeed, what Mo did was truly amazing, and the story of her reunion with her family is heartwarming.

Mo found her way to animal rescuer Cheri Glankler in late June. Cheri had received a call about a brown dog that had fainted from exhaustion at a nearby ranch.

When Cheri found her, the elderly and deaf Mo was covered in fleas and ticks and also lost roughly half of her body weight.

Cheri, a known animal rescuer for 15 years, took Mo in where she bathed her and fed her every two hours.

The fact that older Mo had survived the harsh winter is an incredible feat. She certainly showed that age is just a number.

“She’s a legend, she really is,” Cheri said.

When Cheri found Mo, she felt as though she knew Mo. Soon, she understood why – the Camerons had placed dozens of fliers all over town in search of their beloved Mo.

Once it occurred to Cheri that she had Mo, she immediately called the Camerons. However, Darwin and Cindy took some persuading to visit Cheri and the possible Mo. They had received previous false alarms in the nine months Mo was missing, so they were understandably skeptical.

But what made the Cameron family know it was Mo was the details.

The way Mo handled being bathed, how she slept on Cheri’s foot and the way she deeply snuggled into Cindy Cameron’s stomach confirmed to Cindy and Darwin that it was their Mo.

Needless to say, it was an emotional reunion.

“They didn’t give up,” Cheri said. “[Mo] didn’t give up on them and they didn’t give up on her.”

Mo’s amazing story has inspired Cheri to create a new rescue group. She plans to name it “Legends of the Paws.”
