Phoenix is a beautiful dog with a loving soul, but people just cannot seem to get past his physical appearance.
Phoenix was abandoned as a stray. The poor dog always attracted attention when people would see him walking the streets just trying to find a meal to get by and survive.
But he never got to find a home since one look at his face had people turning away. Many people would refer to poor Phoenix as “freakish” or “horrifying.”
But there were kind souls who saw beyond the dog’s disfigured facial features.
People who offered to help him.
The Skiatook Paws & Claws Animal Rescue in Oklahoma came out to rescue the poor dog once someone called about poor Phoenix.
The team vowed to help Phoenix just just like they would any other dog.
The abandoned dog’s face made no difference to these wonderful people.
They knew that Phoenix was once someone’s pet. All the signs were there, and even the dog’s state of neglect proved his previous owners did nothing to make sure he got the best care possible.
Carisa Ducharne from Skiatook Paws & Claws said, “He was skin and bones. You could see all his ribs. [He was] just so inflamed that he couldn’t close his eyes. He had so much swelling and inflammation in his face.”
But they were still lost as to how Phoenix got his unique appearance.
When they first found Phoenix, the dog wasn’t shy around humans at all. He may have a questionable past but he’s still a bright dog with a friendly demeanor.
Skiatook Paws & Claws did their best for Phoenix’s treatments. They update followers, posting about the dog often. In fact, Phoenix has captured the attention of so many people that they’ve been donating for his medical bills.
This amazing pup has touched so many hearts!
Family Animal Medicine has been doing all they can for Phoenix. And with this dog’s attitude, he’s on his way to recovery.
They now think that Phoenix has an autoimmune disease of some sort.
The good news is Phoenix is doing so much better now as compared to when they first saw him and took him in.
“He’s done nothing but improve every single day,” said Ducharne. “I wouldn’t say this is intentional trauma, but neglect is also abuse, and he was without a doubt neglected.”
The community’s dog lovers have done nothing but show their support for Phoneix. He’s even gotten offers of adoption.
That’s awesome news but the rescue’s focus now is getting the dog back to a hundred percent. It’ll be some time before Phoenix is put up for adoption. He’s got a long list waiting though.
He’ll be the community’s dog that’s for sure.
Should you be interested in donating towards Phoenix’s medical bills, or if you just want to help the other dogs with the rescue, head on over to Skiatook Paws & Claws Animal Rescue’s website.
Let’s hope Phoenix finds a better life when he recovers!
