Lost dog finds police station to report himself missing
Cops couldn't believe it when they saw the dog with no owner in tow.

It’s not every day that a local citizen calmly strolls into a police station to report a crime in progress, something that he himself was actually responsible for.

But that’s exactly what happened when a friendly doggo walked into the Odessa Police Station in Texas to turn himself in.

The problem, as he barked to police officers, was that he was a missing person of interest who had run away from home!

Sergeant Rusty Martin quickly received the eager pup, who didn’t seem too distressed about the situation. The fact that he publicly outed himself, when most furries would try to hide, was even less concerning to this brave pooch!

This puppy escapee was just there to chill out with the boys in blue and have a good time. Lucky for him, the officers on duty were more than happy to play along with his cheeky little game.

Sergeant Martin told The Dodo:

“We were all excited to have him in the building. We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved on him.”

Love him or not, when the cops tried to pat him down and search for some identification, they came up empty handed. He had a collar and looked very healthy, but his dog tags were missing.

Unfortunately, none of his paw prints were in the system, either. Was this German Shepherd a furry spook? Or maybe he was there to sniff out a cat burglar that was on the loose?

Nah, Chico the German Shephard was most likely just looking for some handouts. Maybe he thought he’d get a doggy biscuit for being a “good boy” for turning himself in!

Or better yet – maybe he was there to apply for one of the open K-9 position with the police department, and was trying to get in a good word for himself by trying to get a paw in the door!

Comments and pictures of the canine were posted onto the department’s Facebook page:

“So…. this happy guy randomly strolled into the front desk of the Police Department last night. We’re thinking he wanted to apply for a K-9 position after eliminating a Lassie type situation.”

When Chico finally decided that play time was over and that should probably get back home to his family, he politely let himself out the door.

Sergeant Martin wrote in a post on Facebook:

“He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave. He let himself out and after an exhausting search was not found. We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner. Chico is welcome back anytime.”

As for Chico’s owner, Edward Alvarado, he didn’t even know the 1-year-old had gone missing. He was fast asleep when the goofball ran out the gate!

Edward hoped to train him as a guard dog for his dad’s store, but apparently he’s still too young to take that job very seriously.

He didn’t even know the pup had gone missing until his nephew texted him a photo of Chico that he found on Facebook. Turns out the sly little guy had become an overnight celebrity!

Chico may be the first missing person to crack their own case, even if it was one that he created for himself. If he ever does wind up back at the police station, he’s first in line to become Detective Doggo!
