Over the years, hundreds of studies have been done to better understand the connection between dogs and their humans. Not surprisingly, the experts confirmed what pet owners knew all along. These amazing animals can pick up on moods and emotions.
They just know
Animal behavioral experts also found that dogs can use human facial expressions to differentiate between emotions. Perhaps this is just one of the many reasons why a dog is a man’s or woman’s best friend. This strong connection was proven in a 2014 video shared on social media that’s garnered more than two million views.
A little one on the way
This particular story involves a woman named Mindy Blas. At the time, she was into her third trimester of pregnancy. It was what her six-year-old dog did that made this video go viral.
Enjoying an ordinary day
As this woman and her pup did on many occasions, they were relaxed together on the couch. With Mindy so far into her pregnancy, she needed to rest. And her precious pooch was more than happy to keep her company.
Not much going on
This sweet boy just wanted to be as close to his mom as possible. While some might argue, it was as though he new something was about to change. For several weeks, he’d become more attentive to his human, staying by her side most of the time.
Starting to move
As the two enjoyed some quiet time together, the growing baby in Mindy’s stomach started to move. Initially, the movements were subtle but it didn’t take long before the movements became much more aggressive. With huge brown eyes, her pup continued to stare at her, possibly feeling something move.
Now, that’s a kick
Then it happened. The baby in Mindy’s tummy kicked super hard. It was so noticeable that her dog sat up and then looked off to the side trying to figure out what was going on.
A priceless reaction
At first, Mindy’s pup didn’t put two and two together. But after another big kick, he reacted. His response to the baby moving was priceless, and thankfully, Mindy caught it on video to share with the world.
Still moving around
At the end of the video, the dog is still giving Mindy a quizzical look. It’s super sweet. And you can tell that this dog will be an amazing sibling after the birth of the baby.
Sorry, no updates
Although there aren’t any updates to this story after it posted online, we have no doubt that the new baby and this handsome dog became best friends. As protective and loving as he was toward his mom, he’d likely be even more so with a tiny infant.

A lot of people wonder why researchers spent so much time and money doing studies on the dog and human connection when the answer was obvious. Just ask anyone who has a pup and they’ll tell you the animal knows what’s going on. You can’t beat it.
