We all know the power of a hug! It is a wonderful thing to be able to share a moment with someone in the form of a hug. For dogs, hugs seem to be valuable too! So many dogs love to snuggle and hug their owners, sometimes in really funny ways.

One Great Dane needs a hug each day or he gets grumpy!

Great Danes are some of the largest dogs in the world. They can get up to 175 pounds and sometimes even look like horses! They average around 32 inches at their shoulder, making them stand out among other dogs as well as humans. On their hind legs, it is pretty common for a Great Dane to be taller than it’s owner!

Kernel is a 3-and-a-half-year-old pup who lives in Boston, Massachusetts.

Yesterday, I saw disheartening racism when my #BLM post garnered traction from some unwanted visitors. They’re blocked and their words deleted, but they’ve proven we need to support the black community even more; here goes. Don’t tell me not to talk politics when I spoke of justice, a human right. Don’t tell me I’ve left out “blue lives matter,” when careers are a choice and race is not. Don’t tell me that there are good black people who aren’t the n word, no less saying it with a hard r (this girl was white). Don’t tell me how a small % of people are looting when millions have protested peacefully and made huge changes across America. Don’t tell me about your black friend who says she never experienced racial inequality. She clearly doesn’t think you’re worthy of sharing in her pain. Don’t tell me how police brutality happens when you’re causing trouble. Breonna Taylor was asleep when the police raided the wrong home and killed her. Don’t tell me “I get it, but…” no. You don’t get it. The hateful people saying these things are just threatened that change is really happening. It left me so sad to see, but I volunteer as tribute if that’s the price to pay! #BeTheChange #FootOnTheGas #LetsRiseUp🖤

Coming in at 160 pounds, Kernel doesn’t quite live up to his tiny namesake! What he lacks in “littleness,” he makes up for in love. Kernel lives with his mom, Alyssa, and he is quite the loving pup. In fact, Kernel has some special behaviors that show just how much he loves his human mom.

Every morning, no matter what, Kernel needs a hug from his mom.

In a hilarious fashion, when Kernel doesn’t get the hug that he needs in the morning, the rest of the day is ruined! It is basically the dog equivalent of a cup of coffee. If you don’t get it first thing, the rest of your day won’t be as good as it could be.

Alyssa details a recent time when she forgot to give Kernel his daily hug.

Taking out Kernel and some friends on a hike, Alyssa was running behind and was in a bit of a rush. As sometimes happens, rushing can cause you to break your normal routines so you can stay on schedule. For Alyssa, this meant that she wasn’t able to give Kernel a full hug session like she normally would.

When they got home, Kernel sat on the couch and whined and whined until he got the attention that he needed.

Howling and pouting, Kernel showed that he was actually more like a baby than a dog! He needed some attention before he went on with his day. It seems that dogs can pout when they want a hug too.

Kernel uses all his love to help at the Boston Children’s Hospital.

DAY 25 THROW US A FRIKIN BONE HERE! 🦴 It’s frustrating spending so much time here (no offense @bostonchildrens ur fab) without knowing when freedom is coming. 😔 My aunt is a pediatrician (“lil sis” is not my blood sis, I found her in the streets) and I made her come to the hospital yesterday to devise an escape plan… still working on it lol. It was so fun and special to watch them hit it off! Aunt Jess said she could’ve come without me and been happy! She was low key flabbergasted by how “normal and smart” Fi is lmao 🤣. She has a point; for someone who’s body is whack, it’s remarkable how preciously perfect her brain is. Lil sis dreams of being a pediatric gastroenterologist and she is a pre-med major, currently with a full course load. She also does clinical research for the hospital. 🤓📚25 days and counting without fresh air this admission… not to mention the poking, prodding, and procedures. I couldn’t even handle 2 hours of visiting this weekend without having sympathy pains. 🤮One of the hard symptoms of my ptsd is vomiting at inconvenient times when trying to ignore my stress. Having Kernel as my service dog has reduced these episodes tenfold! And he helps me bounce back fast when it happens. Anyway, back to lil sis, my inspo always – bravest girl. #freelilsis #loveusomuchipuked ❤️🤣

The big dog has an even bigger heart that he puts to good use. Alyssa and Kernel frequent the hospital to meet with patients who could use a bit of joy in their life. With a massive, horse-sized dog playing and loving you, you are bound to feel better!

It seems that a hug for Kernel is food for his heart.

Using all the hugs that he gets each day, Kernel uses that extra energy to care for others. He is currently training to become a service dog and is doing fantastic in training!

Go hug someone and watch the video below!
