Female animals have innate motherly instincts, especially female dogs. They don’t even have to have children of their own to step up and play the role of momma.
Sometimes they don’t even need to be around other dogs in order to adopt another baby.
That’s why an adorable German Shepherd named Skottke Vom Zeder Haus has assumed the role of mother to Holly the Bunny.
“Skottke the German Shepherd thinks that Holly the Bunny is her baby,” a caption to a video on Skottke’s YouTube channel reads. “She has since learned what B-A-B-Y spells as well.”
Every time the word is uttered Skottke goes running to find her baby and there are several YouTube videos where Skottke’s human mom demonstrates.
“There’s Skottke,” her human mom says in another video. “There’s one word in our house that we can’t say and the word is b-a-b-y and you can tell that she’s even recognizing when it’s spelled now.”
You can tell this is absolutely true because as Skottke’s human is saying this his ears perk up and you can see that she starts to get a little desperate looking.
“When I ask her where she has it, she’s going to show me,” the human mom says.
“Skottke do you have a baby? Do you have a baby? Where is it?” she asks her dog.
That’s when Skottke jumps up and races off into another room.
“So we’re going to see Skottke’s baby,” the human mom says following her dog into the next room. “You have a baby in here? In Wesley’s room? You got a baby? Oh you have a baby! Miss Holly, the bunny rabbit is your baby. Hi baby, can you jump up and tell her hi?”
And of course, Skottke jumps up and leans against the dresser so that she can greet the baby. You can even see the scratch marks on the dresser where the dog jumps up showing that he probably does this pretty often.
And the bunny seems pretty fond of her “mommy” as well.
She goes right up to the front of the cage toward the puppy and even looks kind of happy to see Skottke.
These two are really something else and it’s amazing how this dog can recognize words, even when they are spelled out. You can watch this adorable baby and her bunny in the video below.
