Dogs have feelings too!

According to Petfinder, although dogs don’t have the same range of emotions as humans, they are dynamic animals with genuine emotions. They can even sense how others are feeling!

This three-legged rescue dog, who lives in a Mineral Bluff, Georgia animal sanctuary, has a very human trait.

He mourns for each of his friends who crosses the rainbow bridge.

Lester Aradi, the sanctuary’s director, said “Like many of us, there is a sense of loss that we need to work through” and added, “Animals also have that sense of loss.”

Tricycle, a Golden Retriever, is proof of this.

At the Horse Creek Stable Rescue Sanctuary, the canine has been known to lament the loss of his mates. Major, a rescued St. Bernard-mastiff mix, died five years ago, and the story started there.

Major was nearly broken when he arrived at the farm, suffering from serious back problems as a result of physical abuse. He was unable to walk because of his injuries. Tricycle gave life and joy to Major’s living days and the two quickly became partners.

Lester and his wife, Diane, buried Major in a makeshift plot on the farm when he died.

Tricycle was present during the internment, but it wasn’t until the next day that the couple realized how upset the dog was about the death of his pal. They discovered Tricycle lying on Major’s grave the next morning when they went out to the yard.

“It touched us so much that we posted pictures on Facebook,” Lester shared.

Tricycle would rest inside the house. But during when he was outside, though, he would go to the grave and lie down on it. The dog will usually grieve for three days, according to the couple.

“He normally spends his day laying on the gravesite until he comes in at night,” Lester mentioned.

Outside of the Rescue Sanctuary, Tricycle is well-known.

The Golden Retriever is the main character of a children’s educational book “Tricycle and Friends,” about how he lives on the farm with a variety of special needs animals such as horses, goats, alpacas, llamas, and other dogs.

Last year, another one of his animal shelter friends had crossed the rainbow bridge.

Tricycle was seen mourning once more, this time over the passing of Trixie, his 21-year-old alpaca pal.

Lester and Diane, the founders of Horse Creek Stable Rescue Sanctuary, witnessed once more Tricycle lying on the grave and grieving over the loss of his friend.

It was a heartbreaking sight, but watching this dog lament the loss of his loved ones was indeed inspiring. It also goes to show that certain species are emotionally capable in the same way that humans are.

Tricycle maintains contact with animals that have passed away, and the sanctuary’s owners do the same.

“Every animal that has passed over the Rainbow Bridge has been buried on our farm so their spirits can live on where they spent the latter years of their lives,” Lester explained.

Smaller animals’ graves, such as cats and dogs, are marked by a circle of stones. The larger ones, on the other hand, have fruit trees planted in their graves to “continue the cycle of life.”

When it bears fruit, the visiting children are allowed to experience picking apples, cherries, and pears from those trees.

It’s a lovely way to honor these animals who have spent their final days on the farm.

There is nothing quite like the agony of losing a mate. We’d like to think that Tricycle’s days of mourning were also his way of healing his spirit, just as we humans do when we lose someone.
