We’ve all heard stories about dogs being man’s best friend. How they valiantly risk their life to save the life of their owner. But not Sam.
Sam is all about Sam.
Or at least that’s what some people are saying. Holly Monson and her family were enjoying a trip to Lake Saguaro, Arizona. They went swimming and enjoyed taking photos of their family outing.
But Holly, 18, caught something quite hilarious on camera. It was her almost 2-year-old golden retriever in an incriminating act.
Let her explain…
“He’d only gone swimming a few times and it was a larger body of water, so we brought along his doggie life jacket just to be safe,” Holly told BuzzFeed. “My dad threw Sam’s tennis ball into the water, which he went after…that is, until he spotted my sister, Ariana, and decided to swim over to her instead.”
That’s when Sam either wanted to play or got scared.
Whatever it was, it appeared that he tried to drown Ariana.
“Well, it was a nice lake day until my dog nearly drowned my sister,” Holly explained in a Tweet.
And of course, like any good sister, Holly captured the moment of her sister’s distress on camera.
Poor Ariana was struggling, but thankfully her dad was there to make sure she was safe.
“I don’t know if he was trying to save her or save himself, but he put Ariana under for a good five seconds before my dad came to the rescue!” Holly said.
Holly posted the photos of the ordeal which ended up going viral on Twitter.
They currently have half a million likes, 152,000 retweets, and about 2,400 comments.
“We got Sam back onto their boat, returned him his ball, and all was good,” Holly told Bored Panda. “My sister Ariana is also perfectly fine; just a few scratches.”
Holly says Sam may have been nervous since it was his first swim of the day.
“We played fetch with him again in the shallows so he could get used to it and after that, he was completely comfortable,” she said.
People are having a ball with these photos online.
Sam has officially become a meme. Many of them are drowning puns but they’re all hilarious.
Most of them allude to how the stresses of life make us feel like we’re drowning.
And most people found them to be absolutely hilarious.
“This summarizes my life perfectly,” said one person on Twitter.
But there are people who backed Sam up.
“Hey guys, Sam would like to say thank you for all the attention and confidence in his innocence,” she wrote on Twitter.
And from the looks of these photos, Sam seems to be a pretty sweet looking dog.
So, we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
