Video doorbells might just be the only good thing to have come about in 2020.
They’re marketed as being security devices, but they’re mostly famed for capturing hilarious fails and awkward situations that give us all a much-needed laugh.
If you’re unfamiliar with how a video doorbell works, it’s pretty simple. The camera gets activated when someone rings the bell, but most can also be programmed to activate when motion is detected from nearby.
Getting a video doorbell is a bit like getting a dashcam for your car: you think you’ll never need it… until you do.
You might have never fallen into that plant pot next to your front door in your life, but you can guarantee that you’ll do just that after you’ve installed your video camera.
You’ll probably also capture your mailman falling into the same pot, wild animals stopping by late at night, and perhaps even an unwanted visitor or two gracing your front porch.
The beauty of a video doorbell is that even if you happen to miss the live footage, it’ll all be saved for you to watch later.
One woman will have been immensely grateful for the play-back feature after getting involved in a situation that was just too funny not to share online.
The unnamed woman appeared to be returning home after taking her dog for a walk. Nothing uneventful here – but every dog owner knows that you never quite know when your canine is going to cause trouble.
In this case, the woman’s golden retriever had caught hold of her coat hood and refused to let it go.
Seemingly thinking it was a toy, the dog was pulling at the fluff lining of the woman’s hood, leaving her bent double while she tried to pry his mouth away.
This situation is pretty unfortunate, but the thing that makes it hilarious is the woman’s reaction.
On the doorbell recording, you can hear her say:
“Oh, my God. No-one prepares you for what you do when this happens!”
Her voice raises up a couple of octaves as she uses all her force to try and pull the hood away, but to no avail.
Next, she tries reasoning with her dog, saying,
“This is not how I want to go out, Grissom.”
Unfortunately, Grissom the naughty golden retriever takes this as a sign to pull his owner around the wooden decking outside her home.
We get a good view of Grissom excitedly pulling the woman by the hood down to the floor, and she eventually gives into the inevitable and lies down.
It must hit her at that point what a ridiculous situation she’s in, as her dog’s new chew toy, and she lets out a laugh.
Her laughing is what truly makes this video so hilarious – it’s infectious. She cackles as her dog attempts to pull her along by her neck, probably thinking of how funny this video footage will be to watch back.
For a full minute, Grissom pulls his owner around her wooden decking, while she can only lie helplessly on the ground and laugh at herself.
We have to wonder how this situation was sorted – perhaps Grissom gave in, or, funnier, a neighbor intervened.
No matter what happened in the end, there’s no denying that this is one of the most hilarious videos of 2021.
