Man watching TV recognizes dog with severe underbite he hasn’t seen in 2 years
Dwight, who normally turns off his TV every night, happened to keep his TV on that night when a familiar looking face popped up on the screen.

Dogs don’t forget. We all know that our dogs love us very much, but pups who end up in shelters to be adopted may never forget their original home – especially if it was loving. Not all shelter dogs were abused – some just got lost!

An adorable dog with a severe underbite was surrendered to the Wisconsin Humane Society in early July.

With how cute this little pup was, the society didn’t think they would have any trouble getting him adopted. The woman that surrendered the pup said he was 4-years-old and his name was Payday!

Her reasons for surrendering Payday weren’t bad, as some people may think.

She had recently found his as a stray and tried to care for him for a bit. Soon, she learned that Payday wasn’t the best fit for her household and thought he would do better with someone else. Even at the shelter, Payday was full of energy but he was incredibly timid and fearful of people.

“He’s a pretty feisty dog,” Angela Speed, vice president of communications at the Wisconsin Humane Society, told The Dodo. “He’s a little dog with a big personality.” – The Dodo

After some time, it was clear little Payday wasn’t getting adopted as quickly as they hoped.

The media coordinator at the shelter decided that it was time to implement “plan publicity” and get Payday some screen time! All it would take was the right person seeing his cute underbite to know that they wanted him to be their newest family member.

Payday got some airtime on the local news channel… but the shelter was NOT expecting what happened next.

“Dwight normally turns off his TV every night, but must have left it on by accident — or perhaps thanks to fate,” the post continued. “It only took one glance at the picture for Dwight to immediately recognize Payday.”

Dwight, the man who recognized the dog, wasn’t just a stranger – he was the man who bought him! Payday was a gift from Dwight to his daughter and had gotten lost when he slipped the leash during a nighttime walk.

When they went to see Payday for the first time, the reunion was everything they thought it would be.

“You could tell he immediately recognized her, and it was such a joyous reunion. It was magical,” Speed said. “Most people know animal shelters as places where you adopt animals, but reuniting lost animals with their families is a core part of our work. Every time we’re able to reunite an animal with their family, it’s a memorable occasion … It was a privilege to witness it.”

Payday was ecstatic and his fear and trepidation with humans was totally gone. He was home.

They were able to take him home and his long years at the shelter were finally at a close. Now, he’s back to his old routine when he was living at home. He wakes up (he doesn’t like being outside at night anymore), and plays with his two other doggy siblings.

Payday’s Reunion ❤️

🎉 Heartwarming story alert! 🎉 Last week, we were shocked and thrilled when FOX6 News Milwaukee reached out to us after one of our regular Adopt-A-Pet segments. They told us that one of their viewers, Dwight, called in because he recognized the dog we had featured. He had woken up early last Wednesday to the sounds of FOX6’s morning broadcast, just as our volunteer started describing a little brown dog with the most adorable underbite. Dwight normally turns off his TV every night, but must have left it on by accident – or perhaps thanks to fate ✨ It only took one glance at the picture for Dwight to immediately recognize Payday, his long-lost pup who had gone missing nearly two years ago! Thanks to FOX6’s swift action, Payday was reunited with his family at the WHS Milwaukee Campus that same afternoon. Payday was originally brought home as a companion for Dwight’s now 12-year-old daughter, who was still distraught over the incredible loss of her best friend. Dwight’s mom, Melissa, came to pick up the beloved pup and – as you can see – it was the most incredible reunion! We are beyond ecstatic for this amazing family to finally be whole again 💞
