“You haven’t met Dagwood.”
Brianna Madia and her partner moved into a van and started a nomadic life. This life of adventure allowed them to explore the great outdoors with their dogs Dagwood and Bucket.
Life in their orange van is a dream for some. But that dream life would face a terrible crisis when an awful accident happened.
Brianna said that Dagwood was hit by a vehicle.
They were in the middle of nowhere and the nearest emergency facility for animals was about 300 miles from where they were.
They pressed the pedal to the metal while they prayed and hoped that Dagwood wouldn’t fade during the trip.
They reached the facility, but it had already been 6 hours.
Veterinarians raced against time to stabilize Dagwood, but in the end, they came out with a grim prognosis. They said Dagwood only had a 10% chance of surviving.
“You haven’t met Dagwood,” Brianna recalled to The Dodo what she said to the veterinarian.
She believed Dagwood wouldn’t have survived the long drive if he was meant to pass away.
She believed that if there was someone who can survive this accident, it was Dagwood.
Eventually, Dagwood was given time to rest and recover.
He survived his odds but it was a very long way to recovery. All throughout the process, he had Brianna and her partner beside him.
Even if he was bedridden, Dagwood would do his best to give them kisses as if telling them not to worry about him so much.
To help him recover, they moved Dagwood outside so he can hang out with Bucket and see the van.
It was the idea of one of the staff members. They said that maybe it can help Dagwood recover if they reminded him what he was fighting for.
Bucket also contributed as the self-proclaimed member in charge of morale. Then, bit by bit, Dagwood regained his strength.
They placed him in constant rehabilitation practices.
They practiced walking and standing. The road was long but Dagwood was determined. He was strong.
He survived a six-hour drive while injured. He had the support of people from all over the world.

Then, after a month, Dagwood was discharged. He wasn’t in his peak form but he was getting there. And the moment he jumped into their orange van, they just knew he would make it.
He was reminded of their van and now, he was reminded of the life he once had.
And as he traversed through the paths he once enjoyed, Dagwood found a new source of strength. Soon enough he was playing with Bucket again. He was walking through paths again. He became himself again.

All of these would not be possible if not for the people who helped him.
He was alive because of the dedication of the medical staff, but he thrived because of the outpouring support he got not only from his family but from people who stayed with him through his journey.
Watch how a dog with a 10% chance of surviving made his parents proud.
