Getting lost is a very tough challenge. It’s not easy to go back home especially when you lost your way in an unfamiliar area. But, if it’s a dog with a very sensitive sense of smell who got lost, anyone might think that retracing their steps back home would be effortless.
Apparently, this is not always true.
Lost in Bangkok
Khiew Ngern, a mixed black bull terrier puppy from Thailand who’s only four months old, got lost in the busy city of Bangkok. He wandered off from his owner and eventually lost his way and could not return home on his own.
Khiew’s owner works at Bai Mai Kitchen restaurant and while she’s on duty, her dogs, Khiew included, are allowed to roam free. However, Khiew went a little too far from his house that he could not get back home anymore. He spent 6 hours roaming around the city before a clever idea hit the pup.
He could have gone astray, but Khiew was determined to return to his family. This dog may be young and careless, but he is definitely a smart little pup. When he failed to sniff his way back to his owner, he immediately found an alternative solution to his predicament.
Time for plan B
Since his birth four months ago, Khiew has been visiting the same veterinary clinic with his owner. He has grown highly familiar with Phuttaraksa Animal Clinic that he instinctively located the place after failing to get back to his owner’s home.
While most pups are not keen on going to the vet, this dog’s love and attentiveness for his regular check-ups and grooming must have made it easier for him to track down the clinic.
He sniffed his way to the place and started to grab the attention of various veterinarians there. He must have known that they are the people who can help him in finding his way back to his family.
Khiew is one determined puppy.
In the footage recorded by the facility’s security camera, the lost dog can be seen as it barks and scratches the glass walls and door of the clinic, determined to catch the attention of people inside. Fortunately, one of the clinic assistants recognized Khiew as one of their customer’s dogs and decided to let the puppy in.
At first, Khiew appeared to be hesitant when the assistant let him in, but he seemed to be happy that someone took notice and let him in. The staff, finally understanding the situation, called to Khiew’s owner not long after caring for the doggo. Khiew’s owner went to the clinic as soon as she can and picked the puppy up.
Their reunion is a touching moment that happened because of Khiew’s amazing problem-solving skills.
The Phuttaraksa Animal Clinic shared the incredible story on its Facebook page. adding photos and footage showing Khiew as he repeatedly knocks on the clinic’s door to help him find his way home. The post gathered worldwide attention, getting shared for over 1,500 times, reacted by more than 16,000, and getting over 829,000 views!
What an incredible story! This only goes to show what dogs are capable of. We’re truly ecstatic that Khiew is now back to his family, and we’re pretty sure this would make him more careful about being too curious and wanderlust next time!
