What would you choose? Lose your dog due to natural causes like terminal disease or aging or lose them simply because they got lost?
We bet you’d rather choose the former because the reason is inevitable. Rather than the latter, wherein you’re never able to discover what happened or what is currently happening to your dog.
A missing dog can drive its owner crazy and will give them sleepless nights, worse – anxiety and depression.
You’re lucky if you haven’t been in such a hard situation. But for those who had or are currently longing for their missing dogs, don’t you dare loosen your grip to hope.
This is a story of a man and his dog who got separated from him for almost four years. With the power of faith and hope, they’re able to find each other and their emotional reunion drowned the world in tears.

Back in 2015, a man from Thunder Bay, Ontario named Mike Plas lost his beloved dog, Jack. Losing his furry companion tore his heart apart. Because, for Mike, Jack isn’t just a dog, he’s a family member – a brother.
He hadn’t been the same since his dog went missing.
The two would do almost everything together, they’re like shadows of one another. They’d go swimming and fishing together, Mike would even bring his furry friend at work half the time. Wherever he goes – Jack goes.
The day Mike fears the most unfortunately came.
Jack is a husky and shepherd mix and he’s just 4 years old when they lost him. That day, the dog was just tied up outside his dad’s home. But when his mom went out to check on him, Jack was no longer there.
They had no idea if the dog escaped from its leash or if someone took him.
Mike’s determined to find Jack and to bring him back home.
For someone who dearly loves his or her dog, giving up is not and is never going to be an option. To find Jack, he kept spreading posters around their community and also spread the word through social media.
Mike said:
“I never wanted to accept the fact that he was gone.”
Missing a dog for 4 years is not a joke. Some might even give up on the first few months or the first year.
But Mike is a believer and he knows Jack is just out there somewhere.
A phone call that everyone has been waiting for.
In 2019, almost 4 years since their separation, he received a phone call from the Centennial Animal Hospital in Winnipeg. They told him that someone brought a husky and shepherd mix to the shelter.
Luckily, the dog was microchipped and the details traced back to Mike’s information.
He first made sure that it was really Jack so he asked the staff if it has a little bit of brown in one eye and if one of his front paws has a completely black nail. They placed Mike on hold to check on what he said…
Thankfully, they confirmed it with a – “yes!”
The next morning, Mike and his family drove all the way to the shelter to pick up the missing member of their family.
They’re all excited to be reunited with Jack but no one misses him more than Mike. They decided to record the much-awaited reunion of the two, a video which later became viral with 4.9 million views!
Within seconds, the shelter was filled with tears.
In the video, Mike’s uncontrollably sobbing while Jack’s whining with his tail wagging non-stop. It’s indeed an emotional reunion between Mike and Jack.
Soon, Jack goes back to being a dog. He lies down and lets his long-lost human brother rub his tummy. Even the people around them couldn’t hold their tears back because of the beautiful moment happening right in front of their eyes.
This story teaches us to never give up on something that we want to happen. Just like Mike, despite the long years of longing, his determination to find Jack made their reunion possible.
Nothing is really impossible.
