There is something incredible about the resilience of animals in difficult situations. Although everyone on Earth has to go through their own unique emotional and physical challenges, human beings have a huge capacity for expressing their negative feelings that animals don’t seem to have. That bravery and positivity can be seen so clearly when it comes to man’s best friends.
Look no further than a recent story out of Thailand for an example of just how true this is.
Tay-Tay is a two-legged dog living in Chonburi, Thailand.
Poor Tay-Tay has been in a severe traffic accident where he’s lost both of his hind legs. Despite this terrible tragedy, Tay-Tay survived and learned how to walk around on his two remaining legs only. Videos of the dog living in a shelter inspired the world. Still, they also attracted the attention of arguably the most important person in Thailand.
That’s right—King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand noticed the clips of Tay-Tay and decided to step in.
Using his executive powers, King Vajiralongkorn decided to put the dog directly under the care of the royal veterinarian.
Although Tay-Tay was getting supervised and being regularly fed and watered, the king decided to give him a little additional help. After seeing him walking on two legs, he ordered that a special wheelchair be built for Tay-Tay to help him get around more easily. The king decided to visit Tay-Tay’s shelter in person to give him the gift, along with Poj Sitchanukrit, a representative from the Chonburi Livestock Development Office, and other officers from the local Ban Suan Municipality Office.
Still, the ceremony did not go quite as planned.
Although the royal entourage came prepared with their gift, Tay-Tay ended up not taking it.
After seeing Tay-Tay in action, the royal veterinarian ruled that Tay-Tay had adapted to his two front legs and was doing fine with his owner at the shelter. Still, they didn’t want to the wheelchair to go to waste. Instead, they gave it to another dog at the shelter, Sai, who also had trouble walking due to damage to his hind legs.
Fortunately, Sai was more than happy to accept the gift!
To cap everything off, the king and his subjects decided to make donations to the facility to help all the animals there.
The king gave thanks to Peerapha Suwanich, Tay-Tay’s caretaker at the shelter. As a result of all the media attention, the shelter got donations of cat and dog food along with additional cat cages. Above all, everyone was happy to see that Tay-Tay was doing well with Suwanich—and that he was inspiring all the other people and animals who were there.
Beyond being a unique story, Tay-Tay’s strength is a testament to the strength of the animal spirit!
Although losing your legs in a traffic accident is a tragedy that almost anyone would have trouble getting over, Tay-Tay stayed strong and still stood on his own two remaining feet. In doing so, he attracted national and international attention, inspiring the world and helping other animals around him in the process. If that’s not inspiring, we don’t know what is!
Thanks for your indomitable spirit, Tay-Tay! Watch his story below.
