A dog named Indy embarked on an exciting adventure, a quest if you will, to find her mother who had mysteriously disappeared.
She didn’t actually disappear.
Indy’s mom, Liza Thayer, was away for the weekend visiting Virginia for a friend’s wedding.
She left Indy, a pitbull/lab mix, with her parents at their Chester, Connecticut home.
But Indy didn’t realize that.
She thought mom might have just forgotten to take her with her.
You see, Liza takes Indy to work with her every single day.
She works at an elderly/disable housing facility called Kirtland Commons in Deep River, CT.
Liza says that Indy serves as a friendly face and helps to calm the residents, especially recently with COVID precautions in place.
“She loves it here, and all the residents adore her!” Thayer told The Dodo.
So the moment Indy was let out for a potty break at grandpa’s house, she took off to go find mom.
“On Sunday morning [the owner’s] dad took Indy out, but forgot the leash, and went in to get it as they were going to go for a walk. He left Indy on the deck,” Joann Hourigan, executive director, Deep River Housing Authority, told WFSB. “Minutes later he returned to find her gone.”

It took only 15 minutes for Indy to make her way to Kirtland Commons to see if her mom was there.
The facility is about two miles away from Liza’s parents’ house.
“The residents called me and I went to Kirtland and could not believe it was Indy, and had on her own found her way to work,” Joann said. “She’s incredibly smart.”
Indy was spotted on surveillance cameras walking down the facility’s driveway and stopped to look through the front window.
Since she’s a regular, a resident recognized Indy and let her in.
“Liza went on vacation on Friday to a wedding in Virginia, and I knew she’d be away for the weekend and she’d be back Sunday night,” Joann said. “Sunday morning, one of my residents called and said that she thought Indy was here and she brought her in the building.”

Indy got filled up on treats while she waited for Joann to pick her up.
“We all love this special pup so very much and are grateful she made it safely,” Joann said. “The residents are in disbelief.”
Joann then brought Indy home to Liza’s father who was really happy that Indy was back safe and sound.
“I think it just speaks to the importance of pets and how much they do bond with people,” Joann said.
Joann hired Liza two months ago and suggested that Indy come to work.
“She was like, ‘why don’t you bring Indy one day with you, have her meet the residents,'” Liza said. “And since then I don’t think she hasn’t come to work with me!”
Liza still doesn’t know exactly which route Indy took when she ventured to the office on her own. But there was one thing she was definitely sure of.
“She must’ve really missed me!” Thayer said.
