Casey Church adopted his dog when he was just a puppy.
And the longer he had his dog, the larger his love grew for his four-legged friend.
That dog eventually felt like a member of his family.
He saw the dog as his own child and even called him his “son.”
Unfortunately, there was a heartless person who sought to tear this family apart.
Casey’s baby was stolen right out of his Oklahoma backyard about six years ago.
No one could help track down his dog and Casey never thought he would see his dog again.
But he never forgot about his four-legged child and he never gave up hope.
And that hope eventually paid off. Casey was completely shocked when he received a phone call from Pet Link six years after his “son” was dognapped.
“Six years later, I get a phone message from Pet Link that says we found your dog,” Casey told KOCO News 5.
Casey had microchipped the dog as a puppy which is how they were able to track him down and confirm that they found his dog.
The Friends of the New Castle Animal Shelter helped with his reunion.
The shelter’s microchip reader just so happened to be broken when they found Casey’s dog. So, they had to call in a friend to help.
She brought down her microchip scanner and took a few photos of the dog.
He was scanned for a chip and a chip was found, however, the dog wasn’t registered. So, the shelter reached out to the chip manufacturer.
They were able to link the chip to the clinic they sold it to. That clinic ended up having Casey’s contact info.
That bit of information lead to an emotional reunion between Casey and his long-lost dog.
“I’ve got my son back,” Casey said. “He’s grey. He’s old. He’s still kinda wacky a little bit at times but he’s still the same dog.”
When Casey’s dog was let out of the cage at the shelter, he jumped up on his daddy like they never missed a beat.
His dog knew exactly who he was, it was so sweet.
Casey said he is beyond grateful that technology helped to reunite him with his “son.
“That chip really really can do some wonders, he said.
