Everyone knows that dog is man’s best friend, and anyone who has ever had a good dog knows that their loyalty and love is unconditional. One dog proved just how much he loved his owner at a hospital in Brazil.
Cristine Sardella noticed a dog sitting at the door of the hospital and wondered if he was just another stray.
She noticed that the dog was well behaved and even moved to allow people to enter and exit the hospital without having to walk around him or step over him. She was curious about his story. She asked a hospital employee, who told her the heartbreaking tale.
Sardella explained:
“He would get up to let people pass by, very politely, and then lay right back down again. He was educated and tame.”
The dog’s owner was a homeless man who was stabbed in a park across town.
When he was brought to the hospital by emergency medical services, the dog followed. The dog waited at the door for the man, but he died in surgery. The dog had no way of knowing the man had died, so he was simply waiting. He had been there for four months. The hospital staff had been giving the dog food and water, but he would not budge from the spot.
Sardella was touched by the love the dog had for its owner. He must have taken really good care of the dog to earn that kind of loyalty. She was glad that the hospital workers were taking care of the dog, but she wanted to do more.
She contacted a rescue, who agreed to help the dog and find him a safe home.
The rescue first had to catch the dog. They were successful, but he later escaped and ran back to the hospital. It looked like he had no intentions of going anywhere else. He was meant to be there for the time being.
Perhaps he was grieving and just wasn’t ready to leave his owner yet. Instead of forcing the dog to leave, the rescue agreed to allow him to stay. There is a hospital worker who has formed a bond with the dog and is planning on adopting him. The dog is more trusting of the hospital employees, having been around them for so long.
The rescue is helping to get the dog vaccinated and making sure he is healthy before he goes home to live with his new family.
The dog had been through a lot, and it will take some time before he is ready to love someone other than the homeless man who cared for him for so long.
While his loyalty is touching, it’s also very sad. He will never see his owner again, and he doesn’t understand what happened. If there ever comes a time when he does decide to leave, he might think he was just abandoned. It’s much more likely that he won’t ever leave on his own.
Sardella added:
“It’s sad to know that he will never see his owner again and will not understand what happened. The only thing left is to wait at the last place where he saw him.”
Hopefully, the dog can find some peace when he goes home with his new owner.
Until then, he will continue to wait at the door of the hospital for his owner, who will never come. This dog has more loyalty and love than most people. We can only trust that his new owners will return those same things to him. He clearly deserves a special home with special people.
