A sweet pittie named Bowie spent the first part of his life at Gateway Pet Guardians shelter in St. Louis. He was adopted out when he was a puppy, but then he was returned a few months later.

The months went by and the pup sat there, waiting for someone else to give him a chance.

The shelter staff loved the pup and gave him plenty of treats and attention. But still, they knew what Bowie really need was a forever home.

Eventually, the shelter sent him home with a foster so he could at least re-learn to live as a pet.

Still, there were no offers to adopt him after two-and-a-half years.

There’s no reason not to want Bowie – he’s a very good boy. The only catches are that he needs to be the only pet in the home and he’s afraid of children.

Other than that, he’s just one of those dogs that tend to get overlooked.

“He’s a great dog who is very well trained and just needs someone to give him a chance,” Gateway Pet Guardians’ placement manager Brittany Fleming told WKYC News.

A “friend” of the pup’s even agreed to sponsor his adoption fee. Still, no takers.

Finally, the shelter decided Bowie needed his own PR campaign.

“We need help from the public to help find this guy a home,” Fleming told KMOV. “Whoever adopts Bowie is going to inherit a bunch of new friends because he has quite the fan club rooting for him.”

Once Bowie’s story tugged at the heartstrings of the shelter’s social media followers, he was swimming in applications!

The shelter had to sort through 40 offers to adopt Bowie to find him the perfect home.

A few weeks ago, the shelter asked a woman named Briana to come in and meet Bowie with the hopes that they would be a good match. The social worker doesn’t have children or pets and her roommate is a dog trainer!

“We thought it was a perfect fit for a sensitive guy like Bowie that sometimes just needs a little extra time to warm up to strangers,” the rescue told 5 On Your Side.

Bowie went to his new home at the end of August and it’s as if he knew he was finally getting his family.

The shelter shared a video of Bowie yowling for joy when he left with his new mom.

In the video, a staff member says, “You’re getting adopted, you ready?”

Oh, yes, he’s ready alright! Bowie had already spent 1,250 days in foster care.

This boy wants to go home.

Bowie responds with a loud howl and a shake of his tail.

Mom’s holding his stuff and signing off on the last of the paperwork, but Bowie is pretty impatient to see his new digs.

(And no doubt he knows he has a treat or two coming his way in the near future.)

According to WKYC, Bowie’s adoption fee was covered by “one of his fans” and he and his new owner get four free sessions of in-home private training and a professional photoshoot.

And it’s pretty obvious he was born ready for his close-up:

The shelter said they’ve already received news that Bowie is doing great in his new home:

“We’ve already received a couple of #adoptedlife updates, and it’s no surprise that Bowie’s new mama is already spoiling him rotten. She is awesome! Happy Tails, BoBo. You deserve this!” they wrote on Facebook.

We’re so glad Bowie found such a great place to call home, and it’s clear he’s very well loved. What a happy ending for everyone.
