Dog Hoards Tip So She Can Buy Treats
I think we could all learn a thing or two from Holly about saving money!

This entrepreneurial dog pays for her treats instead of begging for them.

According to Holly the dog’s owner, Cassie Cook, Holly’s weird obsession with paper money started when she was just a puppy. It didn’t take long for the pup to realize the paper bills were more than just a fun toy to play with – they served a useful purpose.

Like any other puppy, Holly was a thief. She would get into bags, drawers, boxes, and everything in between. While she would typically take everything out of the object she ransacked, Holly had a vested interest in paper bills.

Not wanting Holly to eat the money, Cassie and her family developed a fun way to get the paper money back.

“She used to steal stuff out of all our bags, including money, and instead of chasing her around the house we would kind of bribe her with treats, so when she had money in her mouth we didn’t want her to eat it so we would say, ‘Here Holly, take the treat and give me the money,’ so it clicked in her head, if she has the money, she will get treats.”

According to The Dodo, Cassie works at a restaurant. Holly always perks up and comes running when Cassie counts her tips for the night.

“When Holly hears us counting money, within seconds she is sitting with her head right on your lap nudging your hands until you give her a dollar,” she told The Huffington Post via email.

Cassie has two containers sitting in the kitchen as piggy banks for Holly to use.

“All the money that is around the house is the money she uses to ‘pay’ for her treats. And when she pays we put it in the bank until she runs out of money around the house. And then we restock her up.”

Anytime Holly wants a treat from Cassie, Cassie asks Holly to bring her a dollar. Sometimes, Holly will go find a dollar and bring it back for a treat. Other times, Holly brings a dollar without being prompted to indicate her desire for a treat.

Holly’s owner told People:

“When we are at the dinner table, she will quietly walk up to one of us and just gently place a dollar on our laps and look at us with that puppy face.”

The odd and interesting quirks of Holly the dog do not end at her interest in paper bills, either.

According to Cassie, Holly enjoys sitting in a chair at the dinner table while her human family is eating. While Holly does not actually eat at the dinner table, she likes being with her family.

“Aside from being a crazy money lady, Holly is the sweetest, smartest dog I’ve met.”

In response to some negativity about money being “pretty dirty,” Cassie notes Holly’s obsession with money dates back four years when she was just a pup.

In those four years, Holly hasn’t had any issues with her health. Furthermore, Cassie notes the money doesn’t spend that much time in her dog’s mouth.

Considering that Holly’s obsession started when she was a puppy and of her own accord, Cassie does not feel as though there was much she could do to stop it.

“There is nothing we can do about having a dog who is passionate about money. There’s no stopping that now!”
