It was a cold rainy day, and most pets are already inside their homes, snuggling their favorite toys, but in the streets, you’ll find homeless animals doing their best to find a shelter.

This is the fate of a little pup named Chowder. He was homeless, and at his very young age, he already knows how to strive to eat and stay dry.

This day was no different for him.

The poor dog was happy that he was able to find a spot where he could rest and stay dry. It was an empty garage behind an old building that was already abandoned and turned into a dumping ground.

People within this neighborhood would throw away their old furniture and trash here. Chowder felt lucky as he saw an old discarded mattress, there he crawled inside and slept.

Now, there is this kind-hearted couple who lived in this neighborhood, and on that fateful day, the husband decided to go out. He went to the abandoned garage to throw some of their trash, and there he saw Chowder.

“When the husband went out, he noticed that this white dog had found shelter underneath this corner of a mattress … and he gave him a little bit of food and water,” Donna Lochmann, one of the rescuers from Stray Rescue of St. Louis, shared with The Dodo.

After feeding the poor puppy, he then decided to call Stray Rescue of St. Louis, and Lochmann, together with her fellow rescuers, went to the location.

What happened next was something that they did not expect.

Finally, Donna met the 4-month-old puppy, but instead of trying her best to tame the stray, she was shocked how Chowder welcomed her!

It wasn’t your usual rescue.

Chowder didn’t run away or growl at his rescuers! When he saw them, he immediately came running to them with his tail wagging with happiness.

“When we got out [of the car] he ran right up to me,” Donna added. “He was just the friendliest little guy. He wasn’t afraid of us or anything like that. I think he was just really happy that someone was being nice to him.”

Take a look at how trusting, excited, and grateful Chowder is!

Without any problems, Donna was able to clip the leash around the Chowder’s neck, and the little guy was even excited to get into the rescue van!

He knew he was being rescued, and he was so grateful to everyone!

Donna was touched by Chowder’s reaction. The puppy had put his paws on her shoulders and gave her the sweetest hug!

She then picked him up and guided the puppy to the van.

“He went up and sat on her lap and just snuggled with her,” Lochmann said in her interview. “He had his head on her shoulder and just buried his face in her arm. He was just so thankful to be warm and to have people be nice to him.”

What a happy and grateful puppy!

Just looking at Chowder’s reaction, you’d already know what a good boy he is. The way he snuggled with his rescuer also shows how trusting he was.

He was just so happy to be rescued and to have people show him what kindness was.

At the shelter, Chowder immediately knew how to blend in. His jolly personality brought joy to everyone! As of now, they are treating his eye infection, and once he has been neutered, he would be ready to find his forever home.
