Dogs are pretty much always more than willing to share their love, but introducing a new arrival into the home can sometimes be a risky act. Our pets are used to being our babies and our sole source of attention, so bringing home another pet could end up being a disaster.
But with that being said, most animals eventually adapt to having another around, and ultimately it can be quite nice for them to have some company when the house is empty.
That was exactly the thoughts that Goldendoodle Rhett Barkley’s owners had, which lead them to make the decision to introduce a new puppy into the family. Of course, the meeting had to be filmed on camera, and thankfully, Rhett Barkley felt nothing but excitement from the minute that he laid eyes on the pup. The sweet video was posted onto YouTube, and we just knew that we’d have to share it with you!
After YouTube channel Rhett Barkley posted their adorable video of two-year-old Rhett meeting his new puppy sibling for the first time, the sweet clip instantly melted the hearts of YouTube users all over the world, and within time the video had gained over 8.9 million views.
The video was captioned, “Goldendoodle Rhett Barkley gets a surprise in a present for his birthday. Rhett loves other dogs so when he turned 2 we got him a companion so he would not be alone while we were at work. They bonded instantly and have been inseparable ever since.”
In the first clip, we can see Rhett waiting patiently behind a glass door, as the new puppy barks in another room. His owner opens up the door and says, “Hey Rhett, come see what we’ve got!” and Rhett barks excitedly in reply.
The next clip shows Rhett’s mom opening up a large cardboard box. Inside is the most adorable looking labrador puppy, and Rhett seems to be initially taken by surprise at the little guy.
However, Rhett’s nerves soon melt away, and as his mom takes the pup out of the box and gently holds him out for Rhett to sniff, the dog’s excitement begins to mount again.
The next time we see Rhett and the puppy, they’re outside in the backyard with Rhett’s dad. Despite Rhett being the older of the two, a puppy-like excitement seems to have taken over him, and he has a serious case of the zoomies as he runs around the tiny pup. It’s clear that he already wants to play with the little guy, and in time, the pup will grow enough confidence to be able to play too.
The sweet video has melted the hearts of people all over the world, and many took to the comments to express their love for the video. One person said:
“What a sweet birthday present! You can see how happy she / he is, he keeps running and wanting to play with the puppy :)”
Another added:
“Seems like dogs get excited about puppies like we do. That warms my heart.”
